Five rivalries to look forward to in 2011
Our own Cascadia Cup gets a mention here. That said, however, I take issue with this article's mention of the Rocky Mountain Cup as being "the best rivalry in the league." I'm sorry, but who?
Granted we aren't officially playing in the league yet, but does anybody outside the most hardcore MLS and RSL/Colorado fans even know that this rivalry exists?
If anything, not including us, I'd say the California Classico or the Canadian rivalry would be the best, but that's just my own personal opinion.

Some of the comments on that article are pure comedic gold
I for one like the commenter that doesn’t understand that rivalries can exist outside of the MLS, in regards to rivalries between established teams and expansion teams. Too funny!
Blazers win!
“Over the course of the past decade, various rivalries, some expected, some not, have pushed MLS slowly away from the "Big 4" professional sports model, where the regular season is, frankly, watered down, and toward the NCAA football model, where it’s an annual ritual to circle rivalry games on the calendar months ahead of time.”
While the commissioner has been doing everything in his power to water down the regular season.
MLS got tired of trying to force rivalries
So they had to go out and get teams from USL that already had rivalries.

Learn to spell before you talk about rivalries.
It’s spelled “clasico”.
Read the article...
And I’ll ask that next time, if you want to point out typos, spelling, or grammatical errors that you do it in a more polite way.

Dude, I feel bad for you if you have nothing better to do to celebrate the new year then to troll here. Maybe if you stopped playing grammar/spelling police you could find someone of the opposite sex (or same sex, we don’t judge) and ring in 2012 having wild monkey sex.

The Rocky Mountain thing is awesome! And I personally am super-stoked for the Heritage Cup as well. WHO’S WITH ME? What’s that Cascadia thing you’re all talking about?

Heritage Cup
Isn’t going to happen. Well, I mean it will happen because San Jose fans are desperate for recognition, but no one will care.
Please and Thank you
Excuse me, would you please, next time, before you blog, do a liitle research into what you claim to know so much about. Including spelling (that was not a typo that was ignorance on how to spell “clasico”). However the mistake was just a symptom of your lack investigation into what you profess to know so much about. Have you actually looked up the history over the last few years of games between RSL and Colorado? Maybe you should. And does it really matter if its known outside of the sphere of the participants? To blithely pronounce Portland’s rivalries superior to established clubs in the MLS smacks of the arrogance you always acuse Sounders fans of.
And by the way to all your trolls out there: I am a long time follower of the Timbers and season ticket holder purchaser. So your ignorance shines through once again.
Respectfully yours.
Please and thank you
Excuse me, would you please, next time, before you post, do a little research into how to provide constructive criticism without being a douchebag?

And not to pile on or anything, but that "respectfully yours" is anything but.

Respectfully... you don't want to make Timbers Army and season ticket holders look bad
Respectfully,I don’t think Timbers Army wants anyone to present a public image that looks like they are anal retentive social outcasts that cannot function socially outside a small network of fellow social outcasts.
You also might want consider avoid typing while drinking. Alcohol and keyboards don’t mix.
I do in fact...
…consider our rivalry more important than the Rock Mountain Cup which was only established in 2005 and was largely marketed by MLS HQ. It was entirely manufactured.
Our rivalry dates back to the 70s.
So you’ll forgive me if I don’t read too much into what you say.
Once again, I’m quoting the MLS article in my spelling of “Classico.” Whether it’s correct or not is entirely unimportant to me.
Also, when have I ever accused Seattle of being arrogant on this site? In fact, I’ve barely mentioned that club here at all and I aim to keep it that way.
If you wish to cause consistent confrontation then I will take action. If you have a specific problem with me or with my reporting please feel free to email me at my address listed below. I’d be more than happy to speak with you about any issues you might have.

P.S.
I’m in no way insinuating that the Rockey Mountain Cup isn’t a real rivalry now, I merely question why its considered the best rivalry ahead of ours, the Canadian Cup, or the California Clasico, each of which has more at stake and more history.
