A Quick Note Regarding Commenting from Non-Timbers Fans

So in a thread a few days ago I noticed some tensions starting to escalate between commenters of various team loyalties. It wasn't anything too bad and certainly nobody is being banned or warned for their actions, but it did allow me to see how things could turn out in a "worst case scenario" situation.

As such I just want to point out that being an SB Nation blog comes with certain advantages for me, as a writer and editor. Not only do I have access to an amazing community, but I can also get on-the-spot commentary from some of the other blog's writers concerning issues like Rodney Wallace and what kind of a player he is (who Martin Shatzer of Black and Red United helped digest for me).

The flip side of this coin is that commenters from other teams can also comment here on Stumptown Footy. This isn't a bad thing though, in fact it's a very good thing. There are already a few blogs and websites out there that cater to Timbers-only fans. Those places are great for when we don't want to be disturbed and would rather voice our opinions amongst our peers. Stumptown Footy, however, was created with the mind that we can all share our opinions in a constructive manner, be it a Columbus fan, Chicago fan, or, yes, even a Seattle fan.

As long as things remain constructive I won't be banning any other team fans from this site. Keep in mind, however, that I will be very proactive in keeping the peace, so to say and if things escalate beyond control I won't hesitate to toss people out at a moments notice, Timbers fan or not. If you feel things are escalating, please report them to me immediately. You can even email me (below) if you feel it warrants immediate action.

As the season gets closer Dave Clark (Sounder at Heart), Benjamin Massey (86Forever) and myself will hash out how we will handle extreme cases of aggression between sites. Just keep note that we will be working together to make sure each of our respective sites are fun places to hang out on the web.

Thanks for reading.

UPDATE: I've discussed the issue with Daaaave and we've come to an agreement on the matter which will help us to keep things civil here on Stumptown Footy.
