Timbers Have Sold More than 10,000 Season Tickets
Great news for Timbers fans this morning who may have been worried about season ticket numbers and how our attendance will fair next season. The Timbers FO just emailed me this morning to let me know that the club has surpassed 10,000 season ticket holders for the 2011 season and they plan to cap it off at 12,000.
Currently there are 33 sections that are sold out in the stadium (All KeyBank Club sections, 92-94, 97-98, 109-120, and 222-223).
Even better news, for we Timbers Army enthusiasts, is that it looks like our own section might become sold out soon as well with a scant 700 seats left available in that area. This will, hopefully, ensure that each gameday is packed with thousands of singing, chanting, and dancing fans.
If you're still on the fence about getting some season tickets, I'd advise that you act soon. I don't expect the remainder of the tickets to last for too much longer

I'm not getting season tickets
Because I have to be out of town too much this year during the first few months of the season but I was sorely tempted.

I am assuming they will come out with some sort of a package deal before the season starts. Then maybe you can buy a handful of games.
Capping at 12k
First year in what is basically a “new” stadium. Give the FO time to sort out the seating arrangement and true capacity of the renovated stadium. I expect the season ticket cap to increase for the 2012 season.
Also, this leaves at least 8k tickets per game available for single-game or multi-game sales.

Maybe...
But of course we don’t really know. I’m also trying to take in to consideration the fact that the stadium isn’t ready yet.

Somewhat related question
Where are the 2,000 extra seats coming from for “bigger matches”? Standing room only? Corners that are normally have tarps? Is that just some random number I read somewhere a long time ago?
I keep wondering that too...
…other than, I suppose, that you can cram more people into the bleacher sections if you’re friendly, I don’t get how capacity is such a nebulous concept. It seems like – at least for soccer – it would be pretty clear how many seats are available.
I guess folks today like to have a certain level of comfort in modern stadiums, but it’s still interesting to me that the record (football) attendance at then Multnomah Stadium was like 35,000 or something, and even with this greatly expanded redesign, we’re only around 20,000. I’m too young to really remember much about the stadium before the mid 80s though.
27k for Women's World Cup in 1999 and 2003
I have no idea about the 35k figure from back in the day, as I wasn’t there. But, I do recall the 27k that fit in PGE Park for Women’s WC about a decade ago. Temp bleachers on the east and south sides. That place was rockin. If ever there was a time when we knew Portland was a good fit for MLS, it was this.

That's really quite impressive
Considering teams like SJ average less than 10,000 in attendance total.

SJ stadium
I think their stadium is only about 10K.
It's nice to see that for some clubs this is becoming normal
Since Toronto’s entry, each new club has been a great hit the first year. Now with other “older” clubs doing well in the attendance department, namely RSL, LAG, HOU, and others it is nice to see the consistent strengthening of MLS in attendance. It will be great to come to a point most MLS fans don’t intently try to read the tea leaves in attendance.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Congrats guys
This can only be good news.
