Ryan Pore Invited to Montreal Impact Camp
No big surprise here, but it looks like Ryan Pore has been invited to the Montreal Impact's camp to see if he'd fit in with the team next year.
This is not big surprise, obviously. Pore went to Montreal in the summer and proceeded to play in 11 games (10 starts) and score 7 goals with 1 assist. Pretty damn impressive!
If Ryan Pore is left unprotected during the expansion draft (which he will be) I expect he'll probably be taken by Montreal.

I wonder what it is
about his play style that made him so effective in the USL Timbers but so ineffective with the MLS Timbers? It always seemed to me that he just wasn’t quite athletic enough to keep up with the speed and physicality of the play. Ryan, I hope you find success with the Impact next year (assuming we don’t protect him).
Mike Rice: "Camby nearly rejected that with his Armpit!"
Mike Barrett: "Now that would be a fragrant foul."
I think he is a good player
But your probably right about the athletic part. There is definately a difference between the MLS and USL. He is skilled enough to do well in the USL, but just couldn’t cut it in the MLS. If i was montreal no matter how well he has done for you, I would look at his history in actual MLS games and that might scare me away from taking him.
What I’m really wondering though is who we protect, and who we leave open to be picked up by montreal.
The good thing about this years Expansion draft
Is the fact that if the rules are the same as it was for Philly and Seattle, Montreal will only be able to take 1 player from each team so if they like Pore and take him good for us.

In any sport
the difference between a high minor league player and a consistent-yet-not-superstar major league player comes down to one of a few things:
1. Speed
2. Size
3. Reflexes/reactions
In Pore’s case, he struggles a bit with #1 and #3. The game moves faster in MLS than in USL, and for whatever reason Pore couldn’t cope with that, and it won’t get better as he gets older.
good for him
I liked him a lot last season, and was a little disappointed that he didnt make the transition successfully.

Agreed.
Although we also used him out of position quite a bit. Spencer was fond of bringing him in as a forward, although his few forays on the wings in MLS did not exactly inspire either.
