Timbers Tid Bits: Play Off Chance Edition
Tonight's match is a must win for the Portland Timbers. Unfortunately, given their rocky past with road games, it also makes it an unlikely win. The fact of the matter is that the Portland Timbers have been on a down swing since the San Jose Earthquakes came to Portland and I just don't know if the team can turn that around for the final two games.
That's not to say I'm not hopeful however. The beautiful part of soccer is that you can never look at two teams and know for a certain which one is coming out the winner. So perhaps the Timbers will go into RFK Stadium tonight and bring home three points. I certainly hope so because, well, hope is all I've got left.
On a side note, thanks to class (go Viks!) I'll be missing tonight's game. Which means after 5:00 PM I'm on a media blackout until Thursday morning when I get to watch the game. Oh the agony!
Enjoy your morning news.

Gettin dirty
I too was disappointed when nobody came over to show Cruz what happens when you knock one of our guys in the house of pane. He was walking on air after that when he should have been walking on eggshells.
Having said that, in the game Ricardo Salazar officiated on Saturday, that would have been a straight red, the elbow to Nagbe’s head would have been a yellow, Jewsbury getting flipped over would have been a yellow, and Zizzo’s takedown in the box would have resulted in a PK.
So I hope they come out tonight promising to back each other up if things get dirty, but if they come out playing dirty, and there’s a decent referee on the pitch, they’re gonna get carded.

That was disappointing
Why didn’t anyone get in the face of Cruz? Someone should have. Perhaps why nobody took the initiative was that we’ve got a few guys on the verge of a suspension for card accumulation, but still… grow a pair, you know?

I work at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC
In front of the building is a scale model of the Columbia River Gorge. I’m going to go spit on it today. Nothing personal. I like your team and all, but dammit, someone involved with DC United has gotta show some heart.
VAMOS UNITED!
It's ok
Every time I see something having to do with DC United I laugh and say “VAMOS MARYLAND”
Low blow I know……
Don’t worry I don’t think that DC should move to Maryland. I even joined the Facebook Page to keep DC United in DC.

Don't worry, I spit and shit on DC daily

It looks like if I go to a DCU game I can spit anywhere I like
without fear of hitting someone.

It was, though a second gut-wrenching result in a row
I just hate hearing snide comments about attendance from Pacific Northwest fans. It’s very “Sounders,” y’know? I already know that it’s embarrassing to see so many orange seats (perhaps that’s why I’ve broken so many of them over the years). However much you love the Timbers, that’s how much I love United, and despite the results on the field, there’s always a part of me that believes United is the greatest football team. Like, it reveals an innate moral deficiency in an individual if they have the temerity to root for another team.
Sorry, I’m raw, and this is your blog. I should go to bed.

Hey
Most of us are Blazers fans too….. We totally understand
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Oh and I have been to RFK
Not exactly the easiest to get to, nor fan friendly…. Also the Camera angles they use only show the Supporter’s side and that is the least populated side…..
Obviously a new stadium is needed hopefully they keep it in DC area.

It always puzzles me when people say RFK is hard to get to
It’s got it’s own Metro stop on two different lines, and there’s plenty of parking lots around it. It’s also right off 295. It’s as easy to get to as anything is in DC. I’ll grant that there’s not much in the way of restaurants or bars nearby, but Barracks Row is close enough.
And actually, the Supporter’s Side is usually the fuller of the two. Feh.

I didn't expect the TV crowd to be reflective of the match
that was RESCHEDULED.
