MLS Announced the 2012 Expansion Draft
Looks like it'll occur on Wednesday, November 23rd at 2:00pm EST.
As with what happened in 2011 each current MLS team will be able to protect 11 players (not including Generation Adidas and Homegrown players) otherwise non-protected player is fair game for the Montreal Impact to poach.
Also Designated Players (of which Portland will have none after this season) don't have to be protected unless there is a no-trade clause in his contract.
We'll have our own protected picks coming soon, but in the mean time, save the date as it's very likely at least one Timbers player will be on his way to Montreal.

Which of our youngens might make the protected list?
I’m not familiar enough with our non-regulars to know which reserves we may want to keep. Lowry? Braun? Thompson?
Hopefully Pore will be one of their selections, which wouldn’t be any sweat off our… brows.

I'm a big Peter Lowry fan
but I hope we don’t protect him. He’s an excellent midfielder and he deserves to be starting for an MLS team, but I can’t see him breaking in with Chara and Jewsbury in our central midfield.

I believe that
Montreal can take a maximum of one player from a given team, so there’s no risk of losing more than one. And I think they only get 10 players total from the expansion draft, so there’s some chance they don’t take anyone from us.
I’m curious who, if anyone, on our team counts as “home-grown”. Sounds like home-grown players, along with Generation Adidas players (Nagbe), can’t be taken at all. So we don’t have to protect them. It would be nice if the guys from the U-23 team count as home-grown, as then we wouldn’t have to go out of our way to protect Gleeson and Braun.
I think the max may be two from any single team.
Plus, with just one team pulling from 18 different teams, and 10 players getting pulled, the chances for getting picked is quite slim. No back and forth rounds either like last year. L’IMPact will have a list, and that will be posted. Round One and done.

I stand corrected [shoulda read this first]

• Once a player has been claimed from a team’s non-protected roster, that team is eliminated from the expansion draft and may not lose any further players.
Also look at this about international players:
• Clubs are restricted in the number of international player(s) that they may make available. Clubs may make available a number of international players equal to their total number of international players minus three, provided that if a club has three or fewer international players it may make available not more than one.
Ex: If you have 10 internationals, must make available not more than 7. If you have 1, must make 1 available. So no loading your lists with internationals and protecting domestic players.

We're good
Part of the Ryan Pore loan, per @MerrittPaulson, was that they wouldn’t take a Timber.
So there’s no worry in the Rose City!
Blazers win!
It isn't against the rules per say
As it most likely is a handshake not written into the loan contract. Maybe we will be trading Pore to them for Allocation Money instead or something else.
