Timbers Tid Bits: Long Break Edition
Looks like we've got another long break ahead of us. The Next time the Timbers play will be next Friday. Unfortunately, this also gives teams like the Philadelphia Union, D.C. United and, as we saw last night, the New York Red Bulls a chance to pull ahead in the standings.
So what are the Timbers doing during this break? Aside from resting up for the final play-off push it seems they are partaking in a sort of fashion week! Mike Chabala, Sal Zizzo and Rodney Wallace will all take to the runway to show off some new eco-friendly EARTHTEC gear tomorrow night. Sounds like fun if that's your sort of thing.
Enjoy your afternoon news!

Have I mentioned how much I hate international soccer and the breaks it causes?
Because I really really do. The last thing the Timbers need now is two weeks off.
David Beckham was not the greatest thing to happen to MLS, not by a long shot. The success of first the Sounders, and now the Timbers, in bringing fans to MLS are much better for the league than marketing around a fading European star and I think MLS will agree with that at this point. He may have been an “important” signing when he signed, but it’s hard to argue that he brought as many permanent or repeat fans to the sport as the NW clubs have.
Exactly
Beckham served as a nice attraction when he was initially signed but the league wasnt going to win over any new fans just because of one player, in Los Angeles of all places. Even he hinted that he didnt feel he had a ton left in the tank when he signed with MLS. Obviously, that wasnt the case but his desire to play in Milan is what irked me most.
Granted we all like to toot our own horn, but it looks like the Northwest passion is spreading when you look at the crowds a team like SKC has been pulling in. Soccer specific stadiums help also…
Go banana!
Even in LA they didn't like him much once the novelty wore off

I dont blame them
When your team’s best player leaves to play in Italy and then ruptures his Achilies tendon it might rub the fans the wrong way. In all serious though, when it comes to set pieces the man is one of the best ever.
Go banana!
Someone needs to revisit the choice to expand to Portland rather than St. Louis
Seems like a slam dunk at this point. Absolutely the right move.
