Here is our last opportunity to vote.
How it works
- Vote by posting a Yes (to Protect) or No (don't Protect) in the subject of a comment, then explain why in the message
- We (the editors) will keep track of all the yes/no votes for each player
- At the end of the whole roster we will total up the results and post the community's Protected list
- Your list will be compared to the list of each contributing editor
- The only player we will not be voting on is Darlington Nagbe as he is automatically protected based on his Generations Adidas Status.

Yes, No, Yes, Yes, Yes
Yes on KFC. I, like everyone else, would have liked more, but he is still a very good player in this league.
Dike is intriguing, to say the least, but he is simply too raw still. He doesn’t have a delicate touch and gave up too many golden opportunities as a result. If we keep him, great, but otherwise he is replaceable.
Yes to Jorge. He is fast and will be much better next year when he is healthy and understands the league better.
Yes on Perkins. Duh.
Gleason was the only non-starter I would choose to protect. We get one spot of wiggle room due to Nagbe’s GA status, I’d use it on Gleeson. He could move up to the 2 hole next year and be ready to start in a couple more. I’m big on Gleeson, it seems like he has a very good future. At the least he is excellent trade bait.
Yes, No, Yes, Yes, Yes
Pretty much agree completely with my homey skenjis.
Cooper and Perlaza are both way too valuable to leave unprotected. The FO would be foolish to let them go knowing they’d get nothing in return, based purely on one year’s performance.
Dike hasn’t shown enough quality to entice Montreal. If they took him I’d be disappointed, but there are a lot of other up and coming forwards with something to prove.
Both of those keepers are no-brainers for me.

I'll respectfully disagree with your assessment that Dike hasn't shown Montreal anything
They did see him last season in USL, correct? That would be enough to give them a preview of his abilities, albeit at a lower level.
Blazers win!
Considering that their coach just came from the Railhawks
He knows Dike.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
That's true; I stand corrected
I was trying to be coy about specifically which up-and-coming-forward-with-something-to-prove I was talking about…
Kejsare, which coach are you talking about?

Oh, got my Canuck clubs mixed up.
Said coach is now with the Whitecaps.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
It almost seems like Vancouver should get another crack at being an expansion team
Almost.

Yes, No, Yes, Yes, Yes
I like Dike, but he didn’t show enough to justify being protected. I hope he’s not drafted though.
Cooper is more valuable returning next year or in trade. Despite his mediocre year, it would be foolish to leave your top allocation pick from last year unprotected. They worked too hard to get Perlaza here just to give up on him after only one season. That said, I expect more from him next year.
I love Portland because everyone here takes things so seriously, sort of.
Yes, No, Yes, Yes, Yes
Just casting my vote so it will count. The others have said it better than I can.
Yes to All
I’ve lost track of my Yes votes but I would prefer to keep all of these players if possible. I think one of our key weaknesses this season was a lack of toughness so I’d hate to see Dike leave. Once he has a full healthy season I think he will bring that dimension that’s been missing and I’d love to see him change the complexion of the game as a sub next year.
Y,N,Y,Y,Y
I believe that next year Perlaza and KFC will hit the 10 goal mark. I want to keep both Dike and Johnson as backups up top but I don’t think we have to protect either to do that.
Yes x5
All my reasons have pretty much been said.
I say yes to Dike because he’s got a proven (although at the USL level) nose for the goal, he plays physical, and pushes forward constantly. He should have had more than just one score on the year, and I bet he’ll get more time if he continues his remarkable rehab.
Blazers win!
No, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes
Cooper is too frustrating for me. I’ll always love him, but I think someone is coming in, and Cooper is going to be pushed aside. Maybe it will be someone that steps right to the top of the depth chart, or maybe it will be someone that will replace him in the course of the season—but that’s my guess given what I’ve heard from the FO. That’s also a lot of money for the MLS salary cap.
Dike is a yes, but only because I think I have an extra yes at this point and wanted to give my piece on Cooper. I do like Bright a lot—he gives opponents an entirely different look—but I doubt protection is necessary.

No, yes, yes, no, yes
Agreed Cooper is so damn frustrating. I just wish he would grow a pair.
While Perkins has had moments of greatness, they were hard to see at the beginning of the season and faded again at the end. I just don’t feel that heart I like in a keeper.
Everyone else is our future.

I wonder if you ought to build a chart and have us protect our 11 all in one place
Now that we’ve had the discussion. I don’t know how many people voted on all the players. I bet some people voted for too few or too many.
Just a thought. But it might be a good way to cap the discussion.

I really like Cooper as a person, but the cost-benefit ratio does not pen out for me. He is soccer’s equivalent of a 6-10+ basketball player that is afraid to bang in the paint, spending way too much time out on the wings. I think we can get a better forward for what we are paying him.

He is LaMarcus?
At least early in his development….

Cooper Yes Dike No Perlaza Yes Perkins Yes Gleeson No
Losing Cooper without compensation makes no sense, and I’m optimistic about his role next year. Gleeson will be great, but I doubt Montreal picks him up, and its not the end of the world with Perkins ahead of him anyway.
Say what you want about America, thirteen bucks still gets you a hell of a lot of mice!
It's doubtful Montreal would take ANY Timber
but to not protect Gleeson would be some major schaudenfreid (sp?)
Blazers win!
Fair enough
I’m a huge Gleeson fan, but I don’t think Montreal would pick him. They already have a good young goalie in Bush. Plus, since I didn’t vote in the earlier rounds, I am trying not to protect everyone that comes up.
That said, if they offer the White Goalie jersey, I’ve saved up enough for a custom Gleeson. Way too early? Yes, but that’s half the fun.

Make sure to get some Stainguard on that thing if they do offer it
White is a deadly color in an environment full of beer, Tetris, and smokebombs

Yes, No, Yes, Yes, YES!!!
I like Dike but there are simply 11 other players we have to keep in front of him.
Cooper and Perlaza have too much value to leave available.
As for Perkins and Gleeson. I think Gleeson needs another year of experience/mentoring from Perkins and staff. Perkins could be a good trading chip during upcoming transfer windows if Gleeson shows he is totally and completely ready. The kid has a really, really bright future. He just needs a little more polish.
