MLS Re-Entry Draft Player List Released; Any Future Timbers in Here?
Monday, December 5th, is the first stage of the MLS Re-Entry Draft. The entire process gets fairly convoluted, as MLS is wont to do. As such, I figured I'll just copy/paste their rules here for you:
Also it's worth noting the Timbers can not re-select their own players in Stage 1, they can, however, renegotiate and resign with the Timbers after Stage 1 is complete.Any player selected in Stage 1 will remain on the drafting club’s 2012 budget at the option price or Bona Fide Offer price until April 1, 2012. Clubs and players may not mutually renegotiate that price to a lower number until April 1, 2012.
In Stage 2, clubs may select from players that are under contract and those not under contract. If a player is not under contract, the drafting club will be required to make a genuine offer to the player within seven days. In the event that an agreement cannot be reached between the drafting club and an out-of-contract player, the drafting club will hold the right of first refusal for that player in MLS.
Alrighty! Here's the list:

We can see a few Timbers on the list. I hope Peter Lowry is selected by somebody. Interestingly enough, Ryan Pore is also listed but under the Montreal Impact. I guess that deal never flew with the Canadian team.
Looking ahead is there any players here you'd like to see adorn the Timbers uniform?
Steve Cronin, former Timbers keeper, is available although I'm not sure it would be right to put him as third keeper.
Sound off below!

typo there
You meant “copy/paste”, not “copy/pasta”. Not that I’d mind more pasta in the world!
yeah, I see the copy but not the pasta!
on to the list..
Hey, we could get Steve Cronin back! If we really needed 3 GK’s, that is (I’m a fan), and I see Maicon Santos on there, who always rocks it in FIFA but doesn’t seem to do much in real life. We could change that.
Other than that, I don’t know any of these names.
Jeff Cunningham, current MLS career goals scored record holder.
Thorton, CUSA, has been in MLS since year 1
Quaranta, DC
Cristman, LA, famous for keeping Houston in the MLS Cup Final
Hejduk, LA, or Hey Dude, US 2002 World Cup squad
Ryan Cochrane, NE, local dude, I played against him in club soccer
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Or was that 2006 for Hejduk?
No, he tore his ACL in 2006, but was on the roster until that injury.
WC: 1998, 2002

Yep
High school too. Most good, up and coming surfers have sponsors by middle school. They also compete in local events, pro-am stuff, and somtimes travel for open surf tournaments in the surfing version of U-17. Kelly Slater and Andy Irons (RIP) were not accidents.
I love Portland because everyone here takes things so seriously, sort of.

So I'm looking at some of these guys
How can I see where exactly they play? I know Boswell has a good reputation, but is a he a center back, a wingback? I don’t remember from the times I saw him play. Where can I look to see that stuff?
I’m still learning this league, so I don’t know many of these names.
Convey is pretty appealing, but if we are all right about Bornstein taking up the ax, he probably wouldn’t be a great fit for us.
I thought Andy Williams still looked pretty good for RSL.

The Best place to find out
Is here:
http://www.mlssoccer.com/players
Specifically the game log information as that has a game by game breakdown of all appearances in the MLS.

Except MLS.com
has basically NO defensive statistics. Grrrrrrrgh.

That's helpful
but I’d like to see what kind of midfielders or defenders these guys are.

He's good
Bornstein used to start at LB for the US national team. He was the star of the team at Chivas but wanted to go play in Mexico. He does not see any time at all for Tigres but is signed to a 4 year deal. If he could I think he’d come back here since we have his rights now. IMO it’s all up to Tigres. They could try and force us into paying a large transfer fee or they can cut their losses and let him out of his contract since they don’t care to play him anyways.
I like Cunningham personally
and a farewell tour season with the Timbers would be cool and all. Just not sure he can produce at his salary level still. He would be a nice closer at the forward spots for sure…

MP doesn't want old guys..
He made a comment yesterday that he wouldn’t go after Drogba(I know we couldn’t possibly afford him anyways) because he doesn’t want any old or retiring players on their farewell tour
not sure where the proper place to suggest this is
but it’d be really cool to have a permanent, running sidebar of MP’s twitter feed so we can easily keep up with the awesome tidbits he always throws out there.

fare enough
just like cunningham, I remember him when I was watching the Crew when I lived in Columbus…

I like him too
I wouldn’t mind opening up to some top tier guys on the tail end of their careers. It’s crazy to think that we’d turn down guys like Drogba, Henry or even Cunningham just cause they may only play here a year or two
Hopefully it’s just a phase right now because we’re building up our franchise through youth and when we are a contender we could take on a stud older player
Certainly a long-shot, but
I keep hearing people bring up Michael Ballack’s name in connection with the Timbers. The Matt Damon look-alike would fill our CAM needs for at least a couple of years, but it would seem out of character for our front office. Thoughts?

Can we afford him?
Ballack in the past has had some large salaries. He’d have to take a significant pay cut to come here. I think Captain Jack would move to the bench but if you get a guy like Ballack frankly I don’t care. He would really help settle down our attack and be an excellent playmaker for us.
The issue with old european guys isn't age or money
It’s competitive value. You don’t want a European star coming over for their swan song and playing every other game (Henry), refusing turf fields (all of them), giving half to none effort (Rafa), going on long loan spells in europe (Beckham), and being a drama queen on and off the field (all of them). It isn’t worth the money you shell out for them.
Jeff Cunningham is value as well. Big contract not contributing a whole lot during the season, maybe 10-15 min a game.
