Pros
When he is on he is on. In only 11 games he scored 7 goals and was the leading scorer for the Impact.
Cons
Seems to be one of those players who is amazing in the lower leagues but just can't make it in the MLS. As can be attested by his goals per game in the MLS vs in the lower leagues.
Steve Purdy
Info
Steve was another USL Timber that was brought up to the MLS Timbers. This was his second year in the MLS as he played with FC Dallas in 2009. He is currently making around $42,000.
Stats
| Year | Club | GP | GS | G | MIN | A | SHT | SOG | FC | OFF | Y | R |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2011 | Portland Timbers | 8 | 8 | 0 | 720 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 12 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
Pros
He is getting international experience and has a great work rate when on the pitch. Also was one of the best offensive minded outside backs the Timbers had.
Cons
Seemed to be lost at points defensively and when paired with someone other than Sal Zizzo did not work well on the wings.
Eddie Johnson
Info
Eddie Johnson was one interesting signings as it was little known that the USL Timbers had traded for him and then loaned him back to the Austin Aztecs. He played in the Manchester United youth system about the same time Kenny Cooper did. He is currently making around $88,000.
Stats
| Year | Club | GP | GS | G | MIN | A | SHT | SOG | FC | OFF | Y | R |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2011 | Portland Timbers | 7 | 3 | 1 | 265 | 0 | 7 | 3 | 4 | 4 | 1 | 0 |
Pros
Is the best Central Forward the Timbers have, meaning he can hold up the ball well and distribute to on coming midfielders. In his 3 starts had 1 goal and showed signs of really breaking out in the MLS.
Cons
Received two concussions this year and as shown from MLS' experience with Taylor Twellman it can become a major issue.

No, no, and no
We let Pore go to Montreal. Seems a foregone conclusion at this point. He never showed enough in the MLS to make him worth keeping.
Purdy was simply not quite good enough. Perhaps someday, but why keep a backup over a starter?
EJ was decent, but the concussions really worry me and he is not young enough to take a flier on. He isn’t likely to get much better at this point.
No to all three
I was down on Johnson early in the season, but he’s got something the other strikers don’t have, like an instinct or an adaptability to score in more imperfect situations or something. The concussion is worrisome, though, and that’s not something that’s likely to go away.

No, no, no
Johnson may have been our most balanced striker, but he wasn’t breathtaking or anything. And I hope and think someone is coming in up top.

No, No, No
I still think Pore can play in MLS, but if Montreal will take him in exchange for us not having to worry about the expansion draft, that sounds good to me.
Say what you want about America, thirteen bucks still gets you a hell of a lot of mice!
No to Pore, and Yes to Johnson, and leave Purdy unprotected but hope he stays
I think he will get picked up by Montreal. I think the pressure of playing in front of the Timbers fans got to him. It showed he seemed lost. I got his mojo back and I think Montreal will snag him up.
Johnson showed some great flashes in the friendlies and his goal against Toronto FC was great. If he can get healthy I think he adds depth to your team.
Purdy for the price is a decent back up. His athleticism came into question against speedier players but he’s smart and tough. another good back up. I think you have to leave him unprotected but for the money another good back up.
I think its important to continue to develop the young USL talent. Yah there are upgrades up there but there is a Salary Cap and for the money these bargains can be had and add depth. Everyone will be playing better next year after a year to adjust to the MLS.
Look North to Seattle as a good example of a team who has developed there USL players in the MLS. I guess they aren’t completely dumb. Just Lame.
No Yes No
Pore wasn’t really that effective this season, and part of it was (from what I’ve been told) he’s a natural MF and was thrust into a striker position for his time with us this season. While he could probably improve with time, if he goes, then he goes and we’ll not miss him much.
Purdy is worth protecting, although there are others higher on the list of course. He’s got the talent to break into the rotation, and with his international experience he’ll only continue to improve.
Johnson is a great player, and looked to be coming into his own before his concussion(s), but there are other strikers to ease his burden. He was really only getting time because of Coop’s drought, and it looks like Coop’s got his feet under him again so it looks like EJ will be riding the pine for a while unless something dire happens.
Blazers win!
No, No, No
I hope Purdy and Johnson both improve in the offseason and I hope both are on our roster next year, but no need to protect them. I actually think Johnson and Dike both can improve a lot and push Cooper, Perlaza, Nagbe up top and/or be great options off the bench to either ice a game or get a goal. Johnson has skills on the ball that I think none of our other forwards (save Nagbe who was not used as a true forward).
No, No, No
I like Johnson as a heady, good player and want to see him flourish in the green and gold. I know a few Aztecs fans who love that guy.
Pore’s already gone if not to Montreal then to somewhere else.
No, No, No
protect your starters, not your subs.
