So they had the lottery for Lee Nguyen and the Whitecaps got him, being 'weighted' and all. RSL, Houston, Dallas, LA, and Toronto all participated. Vancouver doesn't get to participate in any other lotteries now.
I really don't know much about Nguyen, but I was interested because I lived in Vietnam for a while, and because he plays a position where I think we need to add a high-quality guy. I'll have to trust the FO on this one. But it seems like the highest quality guys go in allocation and not lotteries. I can't say it with complete confidence, but it seems like Nguyen is better than the guys that went in the lottos last year (now at least), when we participated in four of the five. I wonder if a better player will go in a weighted lottery this year?
Ultimately, I wonder if the risk of getting Nguyen and not being able to get any of the other guys this year is worth not participating and whatever he could have done for us. We would have had a good chance of getting him among this group. Maybe the price was too high?
Lots of Asian influence in Vancouver, now. I like it. They need to get Amdenkwatpetenpurn (or whatever) from SJ.
