Timber's Army, Noise Can Make a Difference
Seems to me, Real Madrid and Chelsea home crowds could take a lesson from the Timbers Army. Our home fan support seems to swell when our boys are down. As our second season begins next year, and with ticket demand higher than last year, I'm certain that fan passion will grow. As our team matures, so should our fan support, and this will surely lead to further success on the pitch.
Check out this article regarding depressed fans and how their lack of support can affect their teams.

Alright guys, I don't believe I have to say this but, just in case, please do not submit anything racist, homophobic, sexist or otherwise not appropriate for even the younger Timbers fans.

As entertaining as it would be to watch the TA sing the national anthem in American Sign Language in 2012.

Back to OP thought
I agree with the premise and think that both professional sports in Portland benefit from the fact that their fans actually get as loud when the team is in need of energy as when the team is in the lead. I can remember on many occasions seeing the RG faithful rise up and give extra energy to the Blazers when they were down and I can see it at JW too. Other Fan bases sit on their hands and do little to help.
