Assistant Coach Trevor James Leaves the Portland Timbers
Trevor James, an assistant coach for the Portland Timbers during the 2011 season has officially departed from the team's technical staff today. Those of you who were with us during this past pre-season will remember that he had spent the previous 5 years as an assistant coach and director with the LA Galaxy, which means he brought a lot of experience from one of MLS's best teams to the Timbers, unfortunately for us.
"My wife, Tiffany, and I have enjoyed our time in Portland," James said. "From standing on the rain-soaked field during our home opener while the Timbers Army sang the national anthem in front of a national TV audience, to the injury-time equalizer in the last minute of our final game of the season, it has been a privilege to be a part of the passion that is the Portland Timbers.
"I am proud to have played a role in the achievements of the Timbers first MLS campaign and would like to thank everyone at the club for this opportunity. We wish the club much success in the years to come."
No telling where he'll end up next as the press release doesn't say, but I do know that the Colorado Rapids has a head coach opening and, honestly, James would probably fit the bill.
Full press release after the jump.
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced the departure of assistant coach Trevor James from the team’s technical staff.
James spent one season with the Timbers after five years as an assistant coach and director of player development with the LA Galaxy.
James was brought on as an assistant on Timbers head coach John Spencer’s staff in December 2010.
"We would like to thank Trevor for his service to the club over the last year," Spencer said. "His experience and knowledge of the league were helpful in our inaugural season, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
"Trevor brought a personal quality to this organization, and the players and staff held him in high regard," said general manager Gavin Wilkinson.

No idea...
Press release specifically leaves that out which also lends to the idea that the Timbers were holding back on account of another team’s announcement, be it for a head coaching or another assistant coaching position.
