Both Chicago and Seattle didn't buy the Cup,
but they certainly placed themselves in better bargaining positions to gain the advantage.

Most telling statistic
While MLS has hosted 32 of the 56 games (57 percent) played against lower division opponents since 2007, that balance has radically shifted in the last two years. MLS has been the home team for 17 of the last 20 matches (85 percent).

It's almost like the article makes the case for killing off USOC entirely

I like this line
Many fans, primarily obsessed with making everything an identical copy of the English counterparts, point directly at how the draw is conducted and hosts are determined as the focal point of the disappointment, but the issues permeate much deeper.
Specifically the jab at some American soccer fans. England/Europe is a great place for soccer—the best place, certainly. But it’s not practical for our league or nation to run things like them on every count. There are also lots of things out there (hooligans, racism, a complete and total lack of parity) that we don’t need. It’s a bigger issue with things other than the USOC, but it’s annoying everywhere.
IMO the euro-fan Americans will be on board regardless as the MLS atmosphere and product improve (albeit, with their ‘When I was at Stamford Bridge in 2002’ pretensions), and we should appeal primarily to others.

American Eurosnobs were lousy youth soccer players
who couldn’t even cut it on their JV teams. So they get back at American players who were better than them by dissing MLS and fantasizing about Europe. Their act was maybe cool ten years ago when MLS really sucked. Now it’s just old.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that most Eurosnobs are wimpish guys who know little about their Euro club’s history and culture, but they chat on boards amyway. Most probably haven’t kissed a woman in at least five years. They also hate America, eat children, and steal spare change from homeless people.
