The similarities between the most populous city in Oregon and Spencer’s birthplace do not end there. The 41-year-old is now living in another football-crazy town. "Portland is the home of soccer in America," he says. "The game is so popular here. The playing fields are packed at the weekend. It’s great to see."
Great article from the Herald, a Scotland based newspaper, on John Spencer (requires a free registration to see the article.)

I registered as the Rev. Rick Smith
I love Portland because everyone here takes things so seriously, sort of.

good article
i love spencer and his mindset and attitude…perfect coach for this town…good to hear the Timbers turned colorado away as well…
"What and how much had I lost by trying to do only what was expected of me instead of what I myself had wished to do?"
— Ralph Ellison (Invisible Man)
Before Colorado's coach vacancy, Spencer was on their priority list.
They were performing just some due diligence for the former Rapids player [who has his name on their wall of honor]
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
I thnk after
Seeing that pic of him waving the Timber flag on the dugout. Hes here as long as the Timbers will have him.
That would be nice
He is obviously rough around the edges, especially when it comes to tactics, but he seems like a great guy and a good coach. I’m looking forward to watching him develop over the next few years.
Oklahoma State will beat LSU in the National Title game by more than 7 points.
