Our first Home Grown Player?
Looks like the new year is going to start off well as Brent Richards is reportedly signing a HGP contract with the Timbers.

For as many years being on the U-23 PDL
it’s hard to know if this will be an exception only due to being a new franchise or commonplace to allow for team run PDL’s the be counted homegrown.
The Timbers have run the PDL almost like an academy of sorts already. But some are not so local, see Gleeson.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Great news
The youth on the team keeps getting even more exciting.
Oklahoma State will beat LSU in the National Title game by more than 7 points.

Would it kill the editors here
to tweet or FAcebook when you post something. I really would like to read this stuff!
Boom 2012 bitching commences
They tweet main articles, and sometimes FanPosts, but FanShots like this usually don't pop up
That’s why it’s a great idea to check the page hourly, like I do (thank God I have a job that lets me sit on a computer for 8 hours a day)
Blazers win!
I did
I tweeted it twice, once on the SF account and once on my personal account. I double checked that it went out and it did.

This makes me happy for two reasons:
One-He’s a solid player, I’ve checked a few mock drafts and he seems like a mid-2nd round pick.
Two-This seems to really piss off flounders fan-http://www.sounderatheart.com/2011/12/31/2673066/husky-brent-richards-to-sign-as-hgp-with-portland
Somebody should call the Whaaambulence...
The ruckus over there is pretty hilarious.
Still, it’s not confirmed just yet so we’ll have to wait and see before we start the gloating process.

Just wait until you see the Fire's reaction
They’ve had a PDL team longer than the Timbers and ~25% of this year’s combine played on Fire Premier.
There are implications that go well beyond the Sounders/Timbers rivalry.

From Merritt's Tweets
it is safe to assume that it is not the fact that Richards was on their PDL team but some other requirements that were met. What those requirements are only the MLS can answer.

Fanning the flames...
“they should be focused on their own homegrowns, not on what we are doing w/ our local guys. PDL etc is big investment for us”
-Merrit Paulson on Twitter in response to the Sounders fans objecting to Brent becoming a HGP for the Timbers.
Also almost a confirmation wouldn’t you guys say?

I think we should all take Merrit's advice and not worry at all about our neighbors to the north or their fans
Three times now

And...
“i am not substantiating anything, but this guy [Brent Richards] has far more connection to us than PDL. fully qualifies”

It wouldn't be too surprising
To see more than just Richards signed from the PDL squad. A few of the players had cameos with the reserves and looked ready to move up.
It will be interesting to see what happens. As an avid reader of Merritt’s tweets it sounds like exciting this are coming!

Good news if it's true
It’s like a high draft pick, without having to use a pick. Homegrown tastes good.
We're going to turn it on, we're going to give you the power.
On the one hand, I would be thrilled to see BR on the team
But this, in addition to arrival of Valencia, makes it rather unlikely that we will see Spencer Thompson back which is a shame as he never really got a chance to impress.
