My abacus right here has everything you need.
What? It’s only good for navigation. Pffft.

Off topic, but I didn't want to make a new post. This slipped by me because I have no ear to the developing youth academy, but...
Yesterday, the US U-17 took part in a Nike hosted tournament in Florida. The US won the 4 team round robin by tying France, beating Turkey and Brazil.
One current Timbers ODP player was highly rated during the Brazilian match, Rubio Rubin started the scoring in the Brazil win. Catch the highlights here.
Apparently, he’s not labelled a homegrown player yet, but could be if he stays in the system long enough.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
I believe
It is 1 year in the system and he can be signed as a home grown player. This might be who MP was referring to in his tweet about a Home Grown player being on the roster for next year.

Rubio is a Timbers ODP player?
Cool.
We're going to turn it on, we're going to give you the power.

Rubio Rubin was actually one of first beneficiaries of the Gisele Currier Memorial Fund, as set up by the 107ist.

A 14 year old on the roster?
Seriously? He’s talking about Brent Richards. Think this through guys.
Labelled homegrown and being on the roster are two different things.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Exactly
Love that he and many other ODP kids have that label…when Timbers didn’t go the OPL (the big club teams in Oregon) for the academy, we did miss out on a ton of great kids, but they did a great job finding talent and it looks like we’ll see something in the next few years.
He is 15
And Messi started playing at about that age, Wayne Rooney was 16 at Everton, Don’t forget about Edson Arantes do Nascimento (AKA Pele) who played at the World Cup at 17 and won it.
I am not saying he is going to be that good but if he can contribute or at least develop better practicing with the first team and then playing reserve matches so when he is 16/17 he can play why the H not? No reason not to pay him $20,000 a year…..

Not sure that Richards will actually qualify as a homegrown player.
Eligibility through the Timbers PDL side seems pretty tricky to me.
Also, lets not forget that Luis Gil was 17 this year and Diego Fagundez (who scored twice in six appearances as a substitute) was only 16.

More young players in the league...
Andy Najar was only 16 at the beginning of his first season in the league.
There are four other players who were around 15 when they signed as homegrown players last year including Jack Mcbean for LA who scored a goal in his lone MLS appearance.

Look
Sorry, I’m going to start apologizing for how snobby I’m being about this. Rubin is an amazing kid, whose going to be a killer Timber in the next few years, who I really really really hope wears the badge instead of a European clubs academy, but are we really signing him to a contract in the middle of his first year at the USMNT academy? No, honestly. That’s like going from playing in the little league world series and jumping to a farm team right away. Its too much and too fast. The people you listed were far and away the best kids at the camp for years, and Rubin is absolutely making a splash and has me praying we can keep him, but we’re not signing a 15 year old to a HG.
I will bet whatever you want that the only potential HG will be coming off the U-23 team, and assuming Spencer is down with it, it will be Brent Richards. Seriously. Book it.
Doubt that
Did you know that our Coach John Spencer signed his first professional contract at….. You guessed it 15! John Spencer has repeatedly said that if they are good enough they will play and what better place to bring a hot prospect along? You get better not by playing against inferior competition but by moving up against tougher competition.
Brent Richards was a Seattle Home Grown Player before he was on the Portland Timbers PDL team. There is some murky water there and I don’t know if the Timbers will be able to sign him.
The highlights show this kid can play and why waste his talent in the non-professional ranks Sign him and develop him just like the do all over the rest of the world.

Name your bet.
Anything. I’ll take it. Richards will be signed as a HG before Rubin
MerrittPaulson
@TylerTurnidge you are safe making the assumption that key local players are homegrowns. however, we cannot make “announcements” there yet
Plural emphasis mine.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
My opinion
Its the announcement of who has their HG status confirmed.
Richards and a few others off the u-23s are ours, and I have heard we’re back on forth on Palodichuk (no matter what some seattle bloggers are saying) with the league, given he couldn’t have been in our academy (it didn’t exist), but is our area. ODP are ours as well.
Rubin could well be signed by us. He won’t be signed by the end of this offseason.
I can't for the life of me see where I'm implying Rubin is signed "soon."
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Not going after you at all about this
I believe
It is 1 year in the system and he can be signed as a home grown player. This might be who MP was referring to in his tweet about a Home Grown player being on the roster for next year.
You are right
It is Palodichuk not Richards.
I am not saying Rubio will be signed by the end of the Offseason I am just not opposed to signing him this early and getting him some experience.
