Timbers Tid Bits: Combine Edition
Yesterday we saw the release of the players who will be involved in the 2012 MLS Combine. It was quite the impressive list of 52 players and one that we here at Stumptown Footy will be pouring over as we look for potential candidates for the Timbers #8 pick in the 2012 SuperDraft.
One thing to note is that this is not the full list of players that will be involved in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. There will be approximately 66 players involved total which will include international invitees (like John Rooney this past year) and players who have signed Generation Adidas contracts as Darlington Nagbe did. So, while we may find the #8 pick somewhere in this lot, there's a good chance that he may be elsewhere (*cough* Andrew Jean-Baptiste, Matthew Hedges *cough*)
Enjoy today's news!

He’s got an idea but can’t speak properly about it.

The socks are awesome
And Nagbe actually looks happy wearing it, in contrast with the players on all the other teams that have released kits recently.

I became really sold once I saw the full complements. Before I was thinking the kit was just nice.

I have to say, I would really like to watch Landon Donovan play Australian rules football

Donovan story
First, Why does fox sports article call it football? THis is from a company that has a station called Fox SOCCER about a player in one country considering another counties league when both countries involved call it soccer.
Second, I doubt Donovan is considering a move. It seems more like a that is the thing to say when you are in that country and want to make a nice impression and grab some headlines.
I can't speak for anyone else
but I am so, so, so very tired of the “is it called football or is it called soccer” debate. It’s called football. Or it’s called soccer. There is no wrong answer.

Calcio
I don’t hear anyone lecturing Italians about proper footy culture and language, perhaps because their national team has actually won a few things.

Typically I agree.
I typically agree and do not care but there are times when it seems appropriate to pay some caution to which term is chosen. I do not think ‘soccer’ when i hear the term ‘Australian football’ anymore than i think ‘soccer’ when I hear the term ‘American football’.
More importantly… I do not think he has any intention of going there. His options seem to be staying at the Galaxy or going to Europe. I do not see an Australian club making an offer that competes to either of those options for him.
Australian Rules Football is a totally different game than soccer or rugby

I was informed that it was more akin to NFL-style football
Which confused the heck out of me
Blazers win!
Australian Rules Football is basically a street fight with a ball
it’s got elements of rugby but it’s much more violent.
Which is exactly why I'd love to see Landon play the sport.
