Portland Timbers Announce Field and Touchline Lounge Seating
To be expected, but nothing confirmed until now, the Portland Timbers FO announcd today the availability of Field level seating as well as "Touchline Lunge" seating, formerly the Widmer Beer Garden.
The field seating is located on the east side, just below the KeyBank Club seating and is, quite literally, right on the field. In fact, the press release even states that purchasers will have to stay alert as you are only few feet from the action. Here's what's included with a purchase of Field level seating:
As for the lounge seating, this is located on the west side of the stadium and is available for tables of four. The lounge seats are just a few feet from the visitor's bench. Here's whats included:
Pricing was not immediately available, although interested parties should call (503) 553-5555 for more information.
Word to the wise: I wouldn't expect either to be very cheap.

The press release said "for more information or to invest, call today"
When a seat is cheap, you can merely buy it and not have to invest in it. So yeah, these are going to be pricey.
do these seats even have good sight lines?
just wondering
Fan of Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Broncos, and Portland Timbers
It's probably really cool to be so close,
but as far as seeing a play develop I doubt these have very good sight lines.
Mike Rice: "Camby nearly rejected that with his Armpit!"
Mike Barrett: "Now that would be a fragrant foul."
Not really...
I’ve only ever been on the field once during a soccer game and I didn’t enjoy it at all. As somebody who loves watching players position themselves and see a play being built up from the start, I prefer the be high up with a view that can spot everything.

That's why in college
The most popular seats were the ones up top. It was funny to see parents of freshman rush to the bottom only to look up and realize the rest of the fans were at the top of the stadium. Soon enough it made sense to them too.

adidas polo
Adidas Polo shirt, cocktail service, pedicure… seriously, what kind of fan is going to want that? Can’t wait to see some punters cocktail glass explode in their hands when they take a direct hit from an errant pass.
You do realize there is more than one kind of fan, correct?
There are many, many people who will opt for this sort of thing – what’s wrong with it?

It's all good.
It’s all good. I still can’t wait for a charging fullback to slide tackle some Lake Oswego housewife sipping her cocktail.

Seing the light
I’m starting to see the light here. Maybe the Timbers can get Dosha to sponsor the ball boys. They could multitask by giving neck massages until they have to spring into action. And if the west stand is the “library”, the lounge area could be called…

Why is it not OK with you that people enjoy going to live sports events differently?
Just because you don’t want a catered area with food and drink doesn’t mean nobody does, and just because you don’t doesn’t mean you’re a better fan. If you don’t want to sit in those areas, great, don’t. Ignore it and go on about your game day experience.

funny commentary
I mean deriding the team and people that will pay them money to watch a sport that as far as I can tell is only surpassed in corporate logo placement on every square inch of available space by NASCAR.
My only concern is will these field level seats disrupt views from the stands.

Soccer Experience
I think we are going to need a kiddie pool and water slide somewhere. Maybe we could squeeze that onto the south deck. Think there’s any way to work a little bungie jumping in to the soccer experience?.. from helicopters during halftime. Gotta send my resume in to the Timbers.
We get it. You hate this because you don't think these people can be real fans. Quit belaboring the point. It's not funny.

This is MLS.
A dose of corporate back-scratching came with the deal to join the league. I mean, they are offering free Voodoo Donuts in the “Key Bank Club” Lounge!
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
the players are also expected to go up there after they hit the locker rooms as well

Hold on. Are you serious, or not? That’s pretty bad-ass if thats true. I hope I’m not being gullible to sarcasm.
Preaching to the choir
You know what frustrates me the most about this blog… I feel like I’m preaching to choir. I could say, “Kenny Cooper should start in goal.” and everyone would jump on board.
You know what frustrates me the most about this blog?
The fact that you still think it’s OK to deride the people that read it, because they may not be as “authentic” as you want them to be.
I have been to more European soccer games than I’ve had hot dinners, I’ve been to a World Cup final, two WC semi-finals, a European Championship quarter-final, and to several Women’s World Cup games, and you know what? I have more fun educating the soccer newbie than I do talking to people like you, because those people are open to having a fun experience and learning something they don’t know, instead of spending all their time dictating how it should be and mocking people when it’s not.
I am not a mod here, so please mods, tell me if I’m overstepping my bounds, but I really wish you’d bring something interesting and constructive to the discussion, or that you would please stop posting.

Go Timbers
pdb, you seem like a nice guy. In my book you haven’t overstepped your bounds at all. It’s cool that you’ve been to those games. But I have to wonder why you take my comments personally. Go back and read what I wrote. I happen to think that sideline cocktails is a horrible idea and I made fun of that idea, not you. My preaching to the choir comment was sarcasm. What I mean is that there is so much agreement among the five or six regular in this blog that it is kind of pointless. After posting here a few times it’s become pretty apparent that my point of view, whether it be about stereotyping Zizzo’s name, or the cocktails, doesn’t jive with this group. That’s totally cool. Go Timbers.

I don't take them personally in the slightest
I get annoyed by them because they’re pointless, unnecessary, mean-spirited, and to be honest they make you sound like a tool – even though in real life you’re probably not.
Your point of view is entirely welcome, as long as you don’t express it in a way that derides other people and their chosen way of enjoying soccer and the Timbers. There are all kinds of people in the world, and not all of them will enjoy things the way you do. That’s completely fine, and as it should be. Doesn’t mean they are any less of a “true fan” than you are, and that’s what people here have taken exception to – your tone is very much one of “I’m better than these people because they don’t like the game the same way I do”, which is extremely off-putting.
Short version: If you think sideline cocktails are a horrible idea, don’t get any. Live and let live.

Well said pdb
“Stumptown Footy is an unofficial Timbers blog run by SB Nation. This site is designed to be as inclusive as possible and to cater to all types of Timbers fans. So feel free to join the group and contribute right away.”
I’m not sure what LaMitadMasUno expected, but I’m sure he/she knows more about soccer than how to make fun of how people chose to follow the sport, or their depth of knowledge. Hopefully he/she can contribute to the blog in more meaningful ways in the future. Cheers.

has there been any secret info released on when single game tickets will be on sale? will they all go on sale at once? are they gonna save any for same-day walk-up tickets?
Life is about growth. People are not perfect when they're 21 years old. - Bill Walton
No secret info
The only information we are getting is that Single Game tickets will go on sale Mid-March, about a month before the home opener. I think at least the first half of the season will go on sale but I am not sure if there will be walk-up tickets held in reserve.
I think the plan was to have a few (less than 1,000) seats available for walkups
although I could be wrong because now I can’t find where I read that a few months ago.

I wonder how these seats will affect others views
will sidelines be blocked and so forth?
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
Nope!
The seating bowl is elevated from the field by at least 10 feet (more on the beer garden side), so it shouldn’t be an issue.

I know that is how it used to be, just was not sure how the renozations would impact that
They are scooching the field over after all
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
I don't think they altered the actual footprint of the stadium any though
PGE Park had a big left field, and lots of room behind the outfield fence that wasn’t being utilized – the soccer field they used last year was basically cornered on home plate, where now without baseball (sigh) the soccer field has been slid over several yards to take advantage of that open space and provide a little more room in the SW corner.
Didn't sit behind the beer garden
But I know that the seats they had on the field in front of my old seats did not block the view at all, even when the people stood.
