Rumor: Could Andres Ramiro Escobar Be Heading to the Portland Timbers?

It was rumored by John Strong via Twitter yesterday after the Designated Player signing and now El Pais, a Colombian newspaper, is reporting that 20 eyar old striker Andres Ramiro "Manga" Escobar could be heading off to MLS by Friday. This would certainly be an interesting move, but not one entirely unforeseen.

"Por lo pronto hay un interés, pero está difícil porque el viernes se cierran las inscripciones en la MLS y estamos ‘corriendo base’", dijo Wenin.

Google Translated: "For now there is an interest, but is difficult because the entries are closed Friday in the MLS and are 'running base,'" said Wenin.

With Bright Dike out for the season and recent injury by Brian Umony it would make sense to bring in another striker, particularly if he's seen as a growing young talent. Rumor has it that Escobar has also been linked with a move to Benfica of Portugal, an impressive club, to say the least.

Still there's not much here other than the words of a Colombian newspaper so, until we hear something official, we'll keep this one marked as a rumor.
