The Lumberyard 5/23-5/29: Sitting Pretty Edition
Again, the ball was dropped! Gotta do much better in the future!
So we survived our first Cascadia Cup match with a 1-1 draw vs. the color-challenged team north of us, and then we followed it up with a not-so-memorable 1-0 win over Columbus and their not-quite-intelligent-because-they-intentionally-chose-to-sit-in-full-Crew-gear-in-the-middle-of-the-Timbers-Army-section fans. Our coach has given us yet another reason to explain our man-crush on him. We're sitting pretty in the standings and we're on a roll!
How do you think we're doing? What games have you been to? What's your take on the remodeled stadium? When will Nagbe get his first goal? When will the team not depend on set pieces to score?
Answer all those and more below!
Rules after the jump.
Da Rules:
The Lumberyard is here to give the entire site a place for true non-soccer conversation and random thoughts. Its purpose: A place where people can come and chat about all the stuff that doesn't fit in with the rest of the site, and even be loose in terms of byplay and humor. The goal of the Lumberyard is to foster community; to let people get to know each other outside of the everyday front page posts. There will be happy ones, sad ones, ones like a sharing circle, and ones like an open mike night at the comedy club. In the Lumberyard, people really have a chance to become a family.
So, if you have a one-off thought, post it in here. The rules are basic, and are as follows:
- Ad hominem (personal) attacks will never be tolerated.
- Everything you write is visible publicly, so be careful.
- Don't use the Lumberyard to call out or talk about users from other threads on Stumptown Footy.
- Remember that every image posted will slow the thread down, so try to post as few as possible. Posting a link to an image you want to share is an acceptable alternative, and thus can share as many images as you wish without slowing down the thread. If you do post an image in the thread, please post something in the subject line so that the image stays mimimized.
- Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!
Alright guys, I don't believe I have to say this but, just in case, please do not submit anything racist, homophobic, sexist or otherwise not appropriate for even the younger Timbers fans.

Answers:
1. Team is doing phenomenally. I was worried at the start of the season as it looked like we were going to be in for a rough one, but John Spencer has really turned things around. Perhaps all it took was for the team to play a few meaningful games together.
2. I’ve been to every single home game including the USOC game.
3. Stadium looks great. I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Key Back Club over on the east side just before the season started and it’s very posh. Timbers spared no expense on that place.
4. Hard to say. He’s still coming into the team tough as he was a little late to actually join as a starter. I’m not really counting down to his first goal. So long as he supplies the creative element and gets assists he’ll be serving his purpose.
5. Hopefully never. Set piece goals are an important part of the game and I’d hope that whenever presented with the opportunity the Timbers will make good use of it as they have been. I would like to see some solid strikes though.

1. The team’s doing pretty well. I’m not 100% sold on their ability to finish at this point, and they need to start scoring a few goals from open play (which ties in to their ability to finish), but they’re a better team than I was expecting them to be at this point in their first season.
2. Other than the USOC game I’ve been to every one.
3. I desperately miss the Beavers, I’m still sad there’s no baseball in Portland, but they did a really fantastic job with JWP. If they could solve the concourse/men’s bathroom issues it would be perfect. (PROTIP: men, don’t even think of using the restrooms at half time, or you’ll miss the first 10 min of the second half)
4.He’s doing better, but he’s got some more work to do. I was very encouraged by his performance Saturday, though.
5. As I mentioned before, finishing is a concern for this team, so until that gets better, set pieces are going to be important. I really, truly don’t want the Timbers to have to a) be at home and b) rely on set pieces to win, and I hope they develop a better eye for goal from open play soon. I’m glad the wins keep coming at JWP, but I don’t want those wins to mask the work that still needs to be done.
On another topic, I think one of the reasons the Lumberyard might have withered a little bit is because
The Lumberyard is here to give the entire site a place for true non-soccer conversation and random thoughts.
This one’s all about soccer! What else you got? Movies, music, beer, food, annoyance that spring showed up and then vanished? Anything? Bring it!
Red Chair is a very good beer indeed
Deschutes is rapidly becoming one of my favorite of the bigger Portland breweries. I still love Rogue, and go there a fair amount, but I can’t justify paying $12 for a six pack of Dead Guy in the store. That’s pretty ludicrous.
First, Deschutes is from Bend, iirc...
Second, where are you buying your Dead Guy that it costs that much? I get sixers for >$10, and it’s an even better deal when you go to their garage sales and get 12 packs of 22’s for $22-25.
Blazers win!
Fred Meyer, usually
the price may have dropped a bit because I haven’t bought it in a while, but the last time I bought one it was $11.99. Their garage sales are awesome, and they’re having one this weekend so I’ll be hitting that up.
And yeah, I know Deschutes is from Bend, but as I have never been to Bend I always consider it a Portland brewery. I’m myopic that way. hahaha.
GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY DAMN BREWERY, pdb!
There’s only so many awesome things from Central Oregon (me, Deschutes Brewery, me, Jacoby Ellsbury), so you better believe I get to take credit for them.
It’s a Bend brewery, end of discussion.

Yeah, I’m a fan of Red Chair too. Tried a six pack of Ninkasi Spring Reign this weekend. Also very good.
I keep trying Ninkasi and keep not liking it as much as I want to
I don’t know why, but their beers just seem kinda…average to me. Not terrible, but nothing amazing either.
The three Ninkasi beers I've had have been OK, but they're nothing really special.
It’s frustrating, because I live in Eugene, where the brewery is, but I have no desire to go tour it.
However, I am taking a tour of Oakshire Brewing in early June, for a super-secret reason I’ll tell you all about (read: brag about) later.

Any Lompoc pub will usually have it
I don’t believe it’s bottled, though I could be wrong about that (New Seasons usually carries Lompoc bottles, as do some Fred Meyers). A portion of the sale price goes to the 107ists, too, which is good.
Looks like I'll have to look up their locations then
Supporting the 107ist is what any good PTFC fan should do!
Blazers win!
And if you are a card carrying member of 107ist
you get happy hour prices on beer at Lompoc every day but Tuesday (which is all day happy hour for everyone)!
Lompoc is pretty much my favorite brew pub in Portland – every location is awesome, and their beer is very, very good.
Sorry, had to answer the phone before I could finish my thought
New Old Lompoc. There’s a few around, the 5th Quadrant is the one we go to most but the New Old Lompoc in NW is awesome too. And the Oaks Bottom one has totchos. That’s right, totchos. Tater tot nachos. There is no downside to that.
Great beer (Proletariat Red is probably one of my favorite Portland beers of all time), good food, and nice places. What more could you want? Nothing. Nothing more.
I know what totchos are
Blitz Ladd has those, and they rock
And indeed I am a card-carrying member of the 107ist, and damn proud of it!
And I know what more I would want; a beautiful companion to enjoy the beer with me!
Blazers win!
Yes
You need to be more specific.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
I've been wanting to try that
I just tried their Total Domination, and it was pretty good… not as hoppy as I expected for an IPA…
Weird to think too that Ninkasi is owned by Rogue tho, so essentially it’s another Rogue beer
Blazers win!
Where did you hear this?
I am pretty sure they are still independently owned.

I can't remember where I read it... it was a couple years ago
They own Issaquah (sp) Brewing Co. too
I could be mistaken, and that they only have a partnership with them… I’ll see if I can track it down

You know what, you're right
They partnered with them on something is what I am remembering now (what it is I still haven’t tracked down) and I must have confused that with Rogue acquiring Issaquah Brewhouse

The Only Beer I like...
Is Root Beer. I love Henry Weinhard’s Root Beer and the best Keg of Root Beer I have had is from Mount Angel’s brewing company.
I have found something like 75 Root Beers.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
We will now require a Top 5 or 10 list please
I love root beer but don’t really know that much about it. Is the Mount Angel stuff available in stores?
Still is available at New Seasons stores
Also you can buy a Keg from the Brewery!
Top five:
1. Mt Angel’s Root Beer, it is super sweet but made the old fashioned way.
2. Route 66 Route
3.Old Town Root Beer (D-n-A and their traditional Root Beer)
4.Henry Weinhard’s (mostly before they were bought out and commercialized.)
5. Fitz’s Root Beer
After that it gets kind of hard to judge. Go here if you want to find some good Root Beers.
In fact my Brother Kejsare and I had a taste testing party with 15 different Root Beers and 10 or so friends. Way fun, I need to find the results and share them.

Don't get me started on McMenamin's
Seriously, in Portland you can do so, so much better than McMenamin’s beer (or root beer). If they were the only game in town, like in Salem or Centralia, that’s one thing, but their beer is soooooooo average-at-best that I can’t imagine why anyone would choose to drink it when there’s Rogue, Deschutes, Lompoc, Amnesia, Hub, and so many others to choose from.
I'm living proof of this.
I live two blocks from a McMenamin’s, and I’ve found myself in it exactly once, and that was more because my friend was there and I had to report on this, which may contain the best quote ever from a fireman.

Oh and I did find out something interesting this weekend
The reason that they water the field at JW is because that’s what you’re supposed to do to make the turf perform as it’s supposed to. All those little rubber bits you see bouncing up when the ball hits the turf are there not just to help with drainage, but also to keep the blades of turf standing upright – and they do that much better when they’re wet than when they’re dry. When wet, they clump together around the base of the blades of turf and help support them.
Let's see...
How do you think we’re doing? What games have you been to? What’s your take on the remodeled stadium? When will Nagbe get his first goal? When will the team not depend on set pieces to score?
1. Better and better. The first two wins were blowout-turned-nailbiters, and the last 3 have been 1-0..yes, we’re not killing off games like we should, but I feel that once Perlaza gets rolling, we’ll be much more apt to do so.
2. Season ticket holder (I’m there at 2:30), plus the 2 USOC games, and am looking forward to the Ajax game on Wednesday. I have to miss the DC game due to a business trip, which really hurts.
3. From afar, the place looks great. My entire stadium experience, however, consists of the line outside, the 100 foot walk to the top of 106, and maybe the concession stand right next to our section’s tunnel. There’s even a men’s room right there. I’ll explore the whole thing maybe on a tour one day.
4. Nagbe is progressing well, and I think now that we’re out of this stretch of stout defenses (RSL, Philly, Columbus) and derby games (um..you know), he should get an opening to exploit his speed and bag one. Prediction: @ Chivas on the 4th.
5. Kinda the same answer. We’ve used set pieces as opportunities against teams that don’t allow too many clear chances. If anything, I think it’s BRILLIANT that we’re scoring from set pieces, every one of which has been timely – it’s not like we’re losing 4-0 and we bag one cheap header in the 85th..they’re all winners and equalizers, dating back to Captain Jack’s strike @ NE. Set piece goals have earned us 11 points!
So I saw that Fredy Adu was named to the National Team
I haven’t heard anything about him since a few years ago when he was still a “phenom”. What kind of player has he turned out to be?
Go Ballzers
by Sean in Vancouver on May 23, 2011 5:04 PM PDT reply actions
The fact that you haven't heard anything about him since he was a "phenom" should tell you all you need to know
Or, to be less mean about it
Adu should have never left the US. He would have been one of the best players in MLS had he stayed, but instead he’s laboring in obscurity in the…uh…lemme check…Turkish league? Oh my goodness. On loan from Benfica, where he couldn’t get a game.
16 goals in 130 league appearances for his career. Ouch. I liked the kid, but he had some baaaaaaaaaad advisors who kept telling him he could go conquer Europe. Reading what’s happened to his career since he left just kinda makes me sad.
Not just the Turkish league
but the second division in the Turkish league. Since the Turkish league is close to the same level as MLS just imagine what the second division is like.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
I'd say the First Division Turkish league is better than MLS
Especially at the top. No idea about the second division though, probably equivalent to USL/NASL
Hey, You're not dressed for an afternoon of Tchaikovsky and heavy petting!
Fair point, lol
I also don’t follow international leagues beyond EPL or Champions League games on ESPN, nor did I pay much attention to MLS prior to the Timbers. So I could’ve missed something.

What's the story with the TA and the Crewlings?
The’re called ‘Crewlings’ right?
I thought I may have seen a flag over there.
wheniroot.com
volatilelyle.com
A few in Crew colors were sitting among the TA. A few with little success staying.
The story starts on this page of SCUSA: http://www.soccercityusa.com/cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1305501739/105
The Crew’s supporters group is called the Nordecke. Crewlings, uh, ok.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Seems harsh making them move
The justification is that timbers fans may hurt them? How about hurt the fans that act up, not the ones that may be targets?
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
Let me ask you this
Would you want away supporters sitting in the ECS section?
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Security involves prevention first, not reaction.
Secret Service wont intervene until POTUS is shot? I think not.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
My point was that there is nowhere near the hostility between Portland and Columbus that there is between Portland and Seattle
Intent matters – a Columbus fan in the TA is probably more of a curiosity than anything else. Why would someone come all the way from Columbus to Portland to watch a game? Or why would an Ohio native living in Portland think it was OK to sit in the TA section? They’re almost like a mascot at that point. if a Sounder fan sat in the TA section, now, that’d be a different thing entirely – they’d be doing that almost surely to stir stuff up. The Columbus fan? They were probably just confused.
I totally get what you are saying
I just want to know why away supporters think sitting in the Home supporters section is ok and/or smart.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Tickets are fairly cheap. The seats are good. They're just there to watch a soccer game.

Idk... I read the stuff on SCUSA about the Crew guys
They came in wanting to be loud and getting under the TA’s skins, they admitted as much. And when they were offered different seats they turned them down.
I don’t think that the situation was handled poorly. Apparently there’s been rules set out by other clubs for the TA to follow when they visit other team’s stadiums, warning not to venture into the home supporters’ sections. Honestly, we should probably do the same.
Blazers win!
The whole thing could have been avoided simply by singing over the top of them for the entire game.

well appearantly
They did get under securitys skin. From the sounds of th thread the fans in the area did not care to see them taken away. I just think security seems to have a low impression of TA. I would be offended if I Were TA.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
Look at it from security's perspective though
Most stadium security has to just pretty much stand there and make sure nobody tries to seatjack someone’s primo seat. TA security has to corral a bunch of drunken, singing, flag-waving people, make sure the people who sit in TA without knowing what TA is/does are either OK with it or are relocated, and make sure nobody gets into TA that doesn’t have a ticket. It’s a lot of work, and I’m not surprised TA section stadium security has a short fuse for “irregular” things like that.
I am looking at it from their perspective
They let these people in, the people said they were okay with it, no one was getting hurt or in danger of getting hurt, TA people were okay with it, and yet they still forced them to move.
To me this is a huge insult to the TA. Security is saying that there is such a high likelyhood that TA will hurt people dressed in a different colors that they are forced to move them. I do nto think their view of the TA is accurate.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
I think you might be ascribing motive where there isn't one though
And you also don’t know if someone in TA requested that they be moved, or if it looked like something might have been about to go haywire, or what. There’s so much that is unknown about this situation that it’s not as simple as saying “JWP security is an insult to TA” or anything like that. We just don’t know.
From the info given
that no one has disputed… The security moved them for their safety. I am not sure how else that can be interpreted other than the security does not trust the TA not to injure a few opposing fans.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
But what you and I don't know is what instigated the move
Did the security people do it on their own, or did someone in the stands complain about them being there, make some sort of veiled “they might get hurt” comment, and ask security to move them? you don’t know, and I don’t either.
I just don’t want to see a knee-jerk OMGITWASSECURITYTHEYHATETHETIMBERSARMY attitude develop when you don’t have all the facts.
I Understand
I agree I do not want to see a knee jerk reaction like that either. I also do not want to see a knee jerk, anyone not 100% dedicated to the TA like me should be ejected because we can not control ourselves attitude either.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
Not saying it is okay or smart
I am saying it should be allowed. And home supporters should be trusted enough to not attack them. If they can not be trusted then it is the home supporters that apparently have a problem and they are the ones that should be dealt with security.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.

Hi. I’m the Columbus fan that was sitting in 105. We weren’t there to start trouble. We were just there to experience an awesome game with our uncle.
If the shoe was on the other foot, and you were asked to remove your colors, for any reason, would you?
We even expected a few objects to be airborne in our direction.

OK, the last response is most damning. He EXPECTED trouble. Also, the supporter’s section is meant for the home supporters. End of debate.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.

And are expecting trouble doesn’t that sort of suggest that we shouldn’t allow them to start trouble?
Home Supporters only. End of Discussion.
There is an away supporters section for a reason.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
They did not start trouble
They just sat in the TA area and had low expectations of the civility of the TA. Appearantly the security has the same low expectations and some of the TA are okay with everyone having such low expectations. For some reason you guys feel you need to be protected from away supporters because you will not be able to control your agression.
I however think more of the TA and think that they would be fine. If any are not behaving, eject THEM and ban them from the TA area if not the stadium.
The fact that the fans expected trouble is something that the TA should be very concerned about. People should be able to come to a game and enjoy it and not fear injury. The best way to attain that is to get rid of trouble makers, not targets.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
Like I said above, though
nobody knows if security acted unilaterally, or if someone in the TA section asked them to be moved. Don’t damn the security staff unless you know all the facts.
I’m not sure why you’re intent on making this such a big issue, when it’s really not that big of a deal. It’s not indicative of a deeper security-staff hatred or mistrust of TA; it was an incident that happened for reasons that we do not know. To suggest you, I, or anyone who wasn’t there (I was at the game but I don’t sit in TA so I wasn’t “there”) knows why it happened is foolish. The only people that know why are the security staff. And it’s their call.
I do not care
If someone asked them to move. Security should not move people just because other people asked that they be moved.
Nor am I making it a big deal. I am just pointing out my view of it based on the info given which is they were causing no problems and were forced to move.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
That's security's job, though
Security should not move people just because other people asked that they be moved.
So if you’re at a sporting event, and someone in front of you is drunk, loud, obnoxious, swearing at children, and spilling their beer all over you and everyone else, and security hasn’t notice yet, if you go to security and say “hey could you do something about this”, you’d be OK if security said “nope, not my job, go away”?
You weren’t there. You are basing your assumption on an account that may or may not be true, and you’re jumping to very large and erroneous conclusions because of it. All we’re saying is that you shouldn’t assign motives to people when you weren’t there and don’t have first-hand information.
It is their job to move someone
if they are doing all those disruptive things. From all acounts given these columbus fans were not doing anything wrong however.
I understand fully I was not there, but if we all limited ourselves to only discussing what we saw firsthand we would not have much to say. I may be completly wrong, and will freely admit it WHEN someone steps up and gives me more info. Until then I am standing by my comments with the qualifier ‘given the facts presented’.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
And to keep the analogy
the loud drunk cursing obnoxious fan could come and security to remove the children near him and this would be acceptable.
BTW i like how we have now made the crew fan analogous to children. It seems to fit!

Regular season, not pre-season.
Security is proactive and reactive
They nip things before they happen. Controlled aggression by TA means nothings. Whatever the spark, it was assessed a problem may, I reiterate, may happen.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
It may.
In that case we should just ban all Timbers army because they MAY harm someone.
That makes more sense than removign the people they MAY harm.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
Cheeky yes
but the logic is sound.
Why is a ban on potential victims acceptable and a ban on potential instigators not?
To me both bans seem silly since it is based on what might happen when we have no evidence of it being a problem (right?). But if we are going to ban one, it would seem more just to ban the instigators and leave the vicitms alone.
Scoreboards, not billboards.
Regular season, not pre-season.
Your banning people before things have happened,
with your logic Milwall would never have a single fan in their stadium, ever.
I’ll be blunt, I myself had no issues with the Columbus guys sitting in the TA, I thought it was neat. I even briefly talked to one guy and said “thanks for coming out to Portland” BUT, I can see where some people think that the TA section should ONLY be for TA.
Were some members of the TA being dicks towards those people, yes, yes there were. And there is the issue…
It’s not illegal to be an asshole. It’s just rude.
I have traveled across this country following the Mariners road trips, and have had lots of things yelled at me, a pizza slice thrown at me (WTF?) and even a beer knocked out of my hands 5 seconds after I bought it. Haven’t been beat up for being a M’s fan, but I would never be suprised if it happened. Although pity probaly goes a long way…
I would never in a million years, for a million dollars, go to a Seahawk game down in Oakland and wear my Jim Zorn throwback. That is flat out dumb on my part if I’m thinking that nothing will happen when Raider Nation sees me.
Does that suck? Yes it does. But, until society makes a shift towards civility , I’m also smart enough to realize that there are just some things I will never do.

He expected trouble but did not cause trouble
If there was trouble then the person commiting the said act should be the one ejected. Not the target.
He did expected it but was not instigating it or causing it.

I've actually heard differently from people in that particular section
but I’m not taking sides on it. I think it was just a precaution due to the Army’s reputation, and whether that reputation is founded or unfounded is up for debate.
It happened, we can’t go back and change it, so let’s move on.
Blazers win!
Their reputation?
I am unaware of the TA having a reputation of harming people. Is there something I should be made aware of?

Regular season, not pre-season.
No
They don’t have that reputation.

Which is why I am surprised they are not more offended

I don't mean this in as snarky a way as it will sound
but you seem to care about this far more than TA probably does. It’s really not a big issue, it’s not indicative of any serious breach of trust between JWP staff and the TA, it’s just one event that happened. Not that big of a deal.
And the number of comments in this thread
probably over states my concern… I really do not care much. I just thought it was shitty and kept responding when people seemed to not get my point.
One thing I am more than anything is stubborn. :)
but honestly… I do not care that much other than I do not want the TA (or any supporter group in the MLS) to get a reputation (deserved or otherwise) as being dangerous to sit near.

I think the TA's reputation is pretty much the exact opposite of that though
TA’s all about the inclusion. Always has been.
That's probably the one thing I don't want to get lost in this either.
I, too, don’t want MLS supporter groups to get a bad reputation*.

Certain local media members have brought up the TA in a poor light
Making it sound like nothing more than alcohol-fueled mayhem bringers who cause fights and are rowdy.
While said local media members have recanted their statements the damage is still done. I know people who’ve said they wouldn’t sit with the Army because of what they read previously.
Blazers win!
Was that John Canzano? Because that sounds like a John Canzano thing to do.

So
Is it summer yet? I can’t believe we are still in this kind of weather.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
I'm about ready to write a really angry letter to the weather controller people and give them a piece of my mind
This is BS. It’s almost JUNE. I know this is the NW and all, but wow is this getting old fast.
Summer starts...
July 5th. Mentally it is tough to deal with since it’s May, almost June, and your mind says “it should be warmer.” But as it goes here in Portland, locals know summer starts after the 4th.
Yeah
Summer starts July 5th.
Still we should be at least in the 60’s :)

I actually...
LOVE this weather.
Rain, cloudy, dreary. I’ve always been more inclined to go outside during these times than when it’s sunny or, especially hot. If he reaches 80-ish degrees I’m done for the day.

I actually tend to agree with you
Sun hurts my eyes but every once in a while I need that Vitamin D!
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Please, for the love of god, get back to 80-degree sunny days.
I want shorts weather again. This rainy BS is just terrible. It’s gray, dreary, depressing and makes it impossible for me to enjoy being outside.

Um, no. It's gotta be 65 degrees for shorts. Otherwise, it's just uncomfortable.
Also, I don’t like shorts and rain, particularly. They don’t mix well.

Not Timbers Related
I am sooooooo happy Jack Warner may be done! Also I think the door is now slightly open for a US World Cup in 2022.

That entire goddamned organization is corrupt from top to bottom, so the only way to fix it is to get rid of every federation head.

I wouldn't expect anything
This is just a big show to put on the appearance that they are doing something. No way FIFA officials will do anything to Warner or others when they most likely have dirt on tons of other dirty FIFA officials including those conducting the hearing . I am expecting FIFA to exonerate all in involved negating the need for a revote.
Yes, but 8 of the 24 on FIFA ExCo are under investigation or have been accused
of some form of corruption of complicit acceptance in the last year. How is that not trouble?
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
Also
Warner is stuck now, he can’t get out of this one and he just stated in essence, “if I am going down I am taking you lot with me.”
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
I reading into it that the problem is more than 8 of the 24
and he is calling out the others to make it go away or they are next. With everything that goes on in FIFA I have lost all faith in their ability to self-police. If anything major comes of this I would be shocked.
Aaaaaaaaaand nothing major will
bin Hammam out of presidential race, and he and Warner up on “charges”. It’s all Sepp all the time. Expect nothing more than a slap on the wrist to happen, if that.
What possibly started this was the receivers of possible bribes talked.
The pressure is still on to fight corruption and the British and complicit American journalists are looking for it everywhere. Therefore, any semblance of collusion is going to be scrutinized and investigated by a prying and watchful media. Some time ago, they might of shrugged it off, but with accusations flying around one will think twice about taking anything.
Now, adidas should throw its weight around. That would do some real damage.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.

Ajax was wonderful to watch last night
Oooh boy, could those guys change gears at a moments notice!
Blazers win!
you should see them when they're really trying
watching top European teams is something to behold, and it’s easily taken for granted until you see it up close like that.
I remember now why I hate the Internet.
I go to play one game of pinochle on Yahoo! and this dude gets all bent out of shape just because his partner criticized how he played (constructively, I might add). Long story short, I just wrote off half an hour dealing with some self-righteous prick who even took the effort to log in an alternate account as well just to screw with me, when I wasn’t the one who criticized him, and I simply said I wanted to play a game of cards to take my mind off of my stress.
This is why I love StumptownFooty and Lookout Landing. Nobody pulls that crap here.
I can’t believe some guy just hustled a game of cards on the Internet. How low is his life?

I totally agree

Absolutely. I used to even like Penny Arcade, once upon a time.

Second question: Card games -- yea or nay?
If so, what are your favorite ones to play?
Personally, I’m a huge fan of pinochle, cribbage and gin, but I’ll play damn near any card game as a way to relax.
