Timbers Tid Bits: Scheduling Conflict Edition

Tomorrow is the end of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. As everybody expected at the beginning of the tournament the match will be between the USA and Mexico. It's going to be a very gritty, high intensity match that few will want to miss. Unfortunately, the soccer gods that be have decided to broadcast both the Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas match and the Gold Cup final at nearly the same time, which proposes a problem for many of us. Any suggestions?

Enjoy the morning news.

How would the sheridan thing work?

Did seattle have a finder claim (or whatever it is called) on him and then release it?

No idea...

If both want him they’ll probably each get to bid on him.

Discovery claim was the term I was looking for.

It sounds like if the timbers were looking for him then it means the Sounders dropped their claim.

You can have our scraps! :)

The stadium is hailed as an example of good urban planning?

My impression was people were not really finding parking and having trouble getting to the games?

Have you ever been?

Jeld-Wen is in an ideal location right off the MAX line. Yes parking isn’t ideal, but the stadium and city have provided a close in means to downtown for walking, multiple bus routes and either the Red or Blue line for MAX service, and the stadium puts out space for literally hundreds (maybe thousands) for bike parking w/ security.

For a stadium that close in to downtown and that old it’s remarkable it’s done as well as it has.

Again I’m not saying parking isn’t an issue for those who want to drive (although my friend arrived 20 minutes before a game last Sunday and parked fairly close in), but you can’t take a magnifying glass to one aspect and call the whole thing terrible because of it.

I have not been

And I am not saying the whole thing is terrible. I am just parroting what seemed to be my impression from what I have heard. For those not in the city it sounds like a pain.

I guess I have a different definition of good urban planning than most though. Most who use the term define it as lack of cars=good. In which case lack of parking would be a good urban plan. Anyways if most fans are not frustrated then I guess it is good. I must only be hearing the upset people which is likely.

Urban planning does not generally include massive parking lots or parking garages

There are any number of ways to get to JWP that do not involve cars and are easy. JWP itself is in the middle of a neighborhood full of restaurants, bars, and amenities and fits in that neighborhood perfectly.

Not a pain.

Especially if you walk about 6 or more blocks.
