Timbers Tid Bits: U.S. Open Cup Edition
Last night played host to a number of U.S. Open Cup matches between various MLS teams. No huge surprises except for one. Despite their re-surging effort, Sporting Kansas City fell to USL Pro side the Richmond Kickers as the third division team continues to upset MLS team after MLS team. I think, with all the impressiveness surrounding the team's run in the USOC, I've just become their newest fan. Well, at least if/when they ever meet the Timbers.
Enjoy the morning news!

Better get Perkins working on his kicks
He needs to get on the scoreboard soon or else I think Spenny will pull him…..lol
Blazers win!
If they would put a goal in section 118 row G Perkins would have 8 goals this year.

open cup sucks until
i don’t like the single elimination knockout element. NOBODY plays starters. Why don’t they start with a group stage around preseason then do knock outs. Then coaches won’t be afraid of playing starters in possible Marathon Matches plus PK’s.
Not one team outside of the Sounders have taken a real shot at it this year. LA literally gave up 2 goals in the first 20 minutes because they had some under 23 kid in there.
You want what?
Teams already play alot of games. Stretching the season even more would not help. Making a group phase would make it less likely that lower division teams would ever advance taking away the cinderella story that is fun with the USOC too,
Also I do not think the Sounders are the only team trying. LA started quite a few starters last night (Donovan, Juniho) just as Seattle did but neither team stayed with just their top 11. Chicago, DC, and others all start a few starters each game too. Portland had done so in years past but not this year, which was very disappointing. imagine the intensity a PDX SEA game would have had if it were single ellimination. Maybe next year I guess.
