Timbers Tid Bits: Goats Edition
I always found it odd that Chivas USA was named as such given what the word "chivas" actually means. For those that don't know chivas in Spanish means "goats." So, essentially, the Portland Timbers are playing a team called Goats USA tonight. Obviously it's all about the branding being carried over from their sister club in Guadalajara, but it's still funny regardless. This is also why you see so many goat-related comparisons thrown around the team, in case you were curious.
Anyway, onto the morning news!

Isn’t he the mythical ‘goat killer’?
Keep your Timber limber and you'll be hard to beat!

Okay then, name a bigger one.

I know Galaxy weren't the reigning CONCACAF champs but even a Sounders fan has to admit that was a huge win
It's big to us
not so sure about the league.
Seattle’s win was pretty big last night, but all the results MLS has been getting over Primera clubs has been phenomenal. It’s been an absolute slaughter what’s the tally now like 6-1-0?
A mid table team beating the first place team is the biggest win in MLS history?
Is that a joke?

Can't see your logic on this one, pdb, at least on the league level
I will say that Seattle’s win might have been more impressive if they hadn’t been outplayed, and more impressive if the stadium wasn’t half full. It’s a nice win for the league, but ‘biggest win ever’ definitely sounds a bit hyperbolic even if I can’t think of a bigger one—maybe the Burn’s cherry-popper. I think Dallas and Seattle’s wins together mean an awful lot more together than Seattle’s alone.

and it's no more hyperbolic than saying Seattle's win was the biggest win ever
I’d make a size joke but Stumptown Footy doesn’t ban people who say “that’s what she said”
As a Sounders fan I disagree a little
I think Dallas’ win last week was the biggest ever. Not only was it a first, but it really (in my mind) broke down the mental barrier that there may have been. Regardless of what team they put out there, Dallas won and made history. Would I have loved for them to draw and have Seattle have made that history against the biggest club in Mexico? Of course. And this is not to discount the win last night in any way. I just think that while the win was against a tougher team using a half-n-half reserve side, what we’ve all been waiting for happened last week. Last night’s was more impressive, but not the biggest.

Whichever order you put them into
those 2 wins are definitely # 1 and # 2. RSL’s achievment was as impressive IMO because it extended through multiple games, but if you’re asking about the 1 biggest win in MLS history it came in the last week for sure.
We can compare the two, but really I think both wins together is the real story.
Depending on how the tournament develops for these teams and MLS, however, both victories could end up meaning a lot less.

Agreed
I put Dallas’ in a higher regard simply for being the first to break the wall. Sounders’ win was certainly impressive and totally worth the hype/accolades. In terms of history and fanfare, I think Dallas takes it though.

I might disagree a smidge, but only on wording
I’m looking at perhaps instead of “biggest ever”, using “biggest yet”… Until MLS teams can win CCL outright, we shouldn’t say “ever”
Blazers win!
Just off the top of my head...
Well the Dallas game was equally important, but I’d say that DCU’s and LA’s win in the “CCL” was still bigger regardless of the location or that format of the tournament back then. Those will still be in the history books long long long after this one has been forgotten.
