Timbers vs San Jose Game Thread:
Not sure what happened to the original game thread but in the absence of it use this to post comments.
San Jose has a serious threat at its disposal when they take the field tomorrow night. I am, of course, speaking about Chris Wondolowski, the Golden Boot winner for 2010. So far this year he's taking a similar path with 8 goals total. While that only puts him in fourth place in the league, he's not that far off from over taking league leaders Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry at 11 a piece. That would only take a hattrick, which he has gotten in the past.
Lets get this started!

Palmer in the middle
interesting

Does it look like Horst is slipping like crazy in there?

Love the trucker hat on the SJ keeper

I think the biggest was
5k but it was a heck of a lot louder than the San Jose crowd
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
i really would have rather kept our backline as isand move al hassan into the line up and nagby in the middle
We have no real creative center mids in right now to connect anything
Yeah
We look out of sync in the midfield.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
You can see the impact of no Chara
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
LOL
You can totally here the TA, of course they have mics right in front of them
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
The BigSoccer SJ game thread
says they hear the Timbers Army on their TV broadcast too. So it’s not just our feed with that sound
I think that must have been it
I was probably 100 feet from the SJ supporters and probably twice as far from the TA, but I barely heard the TA at all.
long live the jd.
Love that Chabala is talking to Marcelin
Looks like he is telling him to do more and faster
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Good save
Sigh looks like it might be that kind of night.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Like the long shot
Draws out the defense
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
That shot came all from nagby's ability to control the ball with lots of defenders aroudn him in teh middle.
Thats why i would have rather saw him in there and al hassan on the wing and palmer back in D
There were 4 or 5 around him
It was amazing
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
yeah he said he prefers it in there... jus tmakes me wonder if al hassan has an injury or is really that much in the dog house
Hard to tell
Alhassan really hasn’t been making too much of a defensive contribution
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
He isn't a Playmaker
Only a ball winner.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Me too
I think we need him to be more in the middle.

Yes
Looked like the D thought it was going to be Offside

they were so beaten they all just stood there and watched… including the keeper

That goal now plays into our formation
with two 2 d-mids
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
correct, my only worry is even with two defensive mids, it seems we are giving to much posession with no pressure thity yards out
Yeah
We need to control the ball not just Defend
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Terrible D by portland
Luckily the ball went out

Does SJ have a stadium planned?

Seems like
you and I are going to have some frustrations with our central mids :)
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Yeah definatly... this really shows how much chara was really giving us for any of those who doubted him
I think we need a sub at half.
Hopefully Spencer sees that too
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
if we get to halftime like this i would say either marcalin comes out, or hall comes out and palmer goes back to D
Either way I think at halftime we will see al hassan in and a play maker put into center mid
Perkins reaction saves are amazing
So quick
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
We are playing a 4-5-1
Cooper is playing as a midfielder now
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Corales on the throw in
That was some pissy attitude
Cooper
Nice job to break that up
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Which means SJ is that bad
because they are down by 1
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Time to get in Corales' head
Get him sent off
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
I really hate playing in a defensive shell all game... i really hope we get our play makers going next half
Yeah
tough to tell him to leave it :)
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Nice
That looked good, just couldn’t get it on frame. Great ball by Nagbe
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Well not a good half but....
Leading
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Phew,
Ugly, but the lead is nice.
Let’s hope they come out a bit more focused, Nagbe is showing flashes of what he can do in the middle. We can create through him.
Yes
Especially if we do one of two things:
1) switch him and Palmer
2) sub in Alhassan for Marcelin and move him into the mid
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
rather than switching him for palmer, i would like to slide palmer back to defense, hall wasn't bad but he didn't track his outside well
So we could do
Hall going wide for Nagbe and Palmer coming back to the D-line
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
LOL
reading the #RCTID I tweets and saw this:
whatever it is we chanted cookie monster, cookie monster, sing us a song" at it, but to no avail.
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Who is that supposed to appeal to?
It would scare me to death if I were a little kid.
Say what you want about America, thirteen bucks still gets you a hell of a lot of mice!
we will be very lucky to shut them out
if we play like that in the second half. hope we get things going.

Sorry!
About missing the Match Thread today. Been very busy and it just completely slipped my mind.
Great goal by Cooper/Perlaza by the way, although after that the Timbers just kind of gave up. We’re lucky it’;s not tied right now.

The only thing I can think of is
Which players are good enough to be subbed in with Johnson, Jewsbury, Chara all unavailable.
Kalif, that is it

San Jose looks as if they have all the momentum right now...

Is Spencer pushing for the win?
Or just going for the draw?

Well that's something
Hopefully these last few minutes will see a goal for the good guys.
Thanks for the answer

I really hate how the announcers are talking about how a tie would be fine.... If you want to make the play offs this is a game that you need to win
Dunno
Rule of thumb is win at home and draw in the road……
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Normally but we have already lost to many at home... so we need to beat teams that are below us in the standings
But
We still play them at home
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
That was a great pass by cooper... and a great defensive play... dike needs to cut the defender off instead
And close again

Well, an interesting 8 minutes
Nice goal by Cooper. How’d he play today?
Say what you want about America, thirteen bucks still gets you a hell of a lot of mice!
As well as he could
without any service. He did have some great balls to Perlaza who should have scored on a break away
Contributing editor to Stumptown Footy the Portland Timbers SBN blog.
Hopefully this is a sign of him coming back into form
Though I’m hesitant to get my hopes up.
Seems like the team missed Chara and Jewsbury, which is hardly a surprise. Hopefully next week they Cap’n Jack can return. It’ll be nice to have Chara back, at least.

Well at least it got interesting
I’ll take the point given how we played and missing our CMs.

For anyone who doubts Diego Chara
With his absence tonight, I think there was some good evidence as to what he brings to this team in the midfield.

Agree 100%
Chara means so much to this team
