Timbers Tid Bits: Home Game Edition
Tonight is the first home game since August 24th. That was over three weeks ago! I think I'm starting to go through some serious withdrawals. Thankfully, tonight's game followed by next Wednesday's San Jose Earthquakes home game should help alleviate any symptoms. I got the shakes real bad...
On a more realistic note, it'll be awesome to get back into the Timbers Army section tonight. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the stadium withstands the added pressure from ~2000 extra fans. If it does well, we could see this as the regular attendance for next year. Exciting!
I'll have the match thread and match preview up a little later today. Until then, enjoy the morning news!

Revs' Cochrane: Portland is "best soccer market" in USA
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/09/16/kick-spencer-sets-target-timbers-playoff-dreams
"I’m excited for the area," Cochrane said. "Anybody who doesn’t think that Portland is the best soccer market in the country is a little bit delusional or they haven’t been here. I’m excited for the franchise and for the Timbers to finally get a MLS team."
Thanks, man.

I try not to be the grammer police...
but the phrase “It should be a little extra louder at Jeld-Wen” in that article is making me twitch…
But I will shout loudliest

Grant Wahl is too logical
But his article should be required reading for Garber and team owners. I would let the lower playoff seeds have one home match in group play.
But four regular season matches against RSL and Colorado? Meh.

It would make...
traveling to away games more feasible. More games against teams geographically closer makes is easier for fans who want to follow their team on the road.
I don’t exactly like his suggestion. I like balanced schedules and I’d still rather dump conferences. And his solution does nothing to eliminate the problem of worse teams getting in over better teams because their conference is weaker.
But it does allow the best teams to meet in the finals, which is how it should be.
Playoffs
There are parts of the plan that really stick and others… well I don’t see working. I’m in the same boat of not exactly being to excited at the prospect of playing a divisional opponent four times though I appreciate the sentiment of group play for the playoffs. Considering where the Timbers would fall should they make playoffs this season I guess I should probably should be a little more sympathetic to lower tier playoff teams but I really dig the prospect of conference winners being rewarded a slew of home games for the playoffs, while those who just make it in should be appreciate the experience. Just being a hard a— I guess.

Who's up for one?
Which of the players will be busting out a rap for the ladies of the USWNT when they come to town?

I would love to see Nagbe do it.
But he is too quiet.
The real question is who would you do it to? I would go for Megan Rapinoe or Alex Morgan. Just don’t tell my wife I said that
