Diego Chara gets called up for Colombia's World Cup Qualifier
HUGE congratulations to Diego Chara for getting the call up for Colombia's October 11th World Cup Qualifier against Bolivia.
As we all know the South American conference is especially challenging so this kind of experience could be huge for the young midfielder.
Good luck Chara! You've got tons of support here in Portland!

Forgive my ignorance...
…but why weren’t any other Colombian MLS’ers called up? Is it because they want to respect Montero’s playoff/CCL time or something, or are they just trying to check out some new faces?

It's not your ignorance that needs forgiving...
It’s your insinuation that Montero is a better player than Diego Chara! How dare you! :)

I kid, I kid
Seriously, though, Bolivia isn’t exactly a soccer powerhouse, so it is entirely possible that they just want to try some new folks.
But it’s also possible that they might interested his unique style, thinking that it would fit well with the rest of the team.
Either way, I’m really excited for the guy.

Bolivia, Colombia, we're all ugly Americans here!....pass me a hot dog!
Seriously though, it’s definitely awesome for him, and I’m not saying Monterro is a better player (it’s a little hard to compare two players that play different positions I think) I’m just curious I guess.

So Diego Chara will miss the Houston game?
Darn, I’ve really enjoyed his style of play. Good for him, though. That’s got to be quite an honor to play for your country.
I wish I could be there when he tries to explain Timber Joey to his buddies back home!
Maybe he’ll take a log slab as an example!
According to the Timbers' press release
None of the call-ups will miss MLS duty.

That's great news!
Futty and Diego might be a bit jet-lagged, though.
Best of luck to their respective teams!
