Very excited
I think this signing will also help put our draft day decisions in perspective, as well. Come on, tomorrow, already!
Snow and a Timbers Signing!
Possibility of No school and a Timbers Signing is just too much for me! I am going to bed now so I can wake up tomorrow faster!

Australia.
If you get on a plane to Australia right now you will find tomorrow today and that the announcement has already happened!
Compared to other announcements, glad I'll be surprised this time around.

this sucks
I cant wait until tomorrow… as effective as jamison olave? meaning a defender…..? no!? what!? im so mind fucked
I was just assuming this was Mosquera
Now I’m not so sure. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

Mosquera
He fits the bill at around 1.3 million….. although i thought we would have split it up around 600+ for two players. especially since the rumor has GW talking about a Striker…and now this… so confused.
Well
The Timbers can still split it up however they want. After 335K it really doesn’t matter as they are DP anyways.

$1.3 Million?
I doubt he will be that expensive. It sounds like the Timbers are planning to sign Mosquera to a non-DP contract and get a striker as the 3rd DP.
The 1.3 Million
Could be taken care of in a lot of ways. I have heard of transfer fees being broken into installments and paid over a period of time. Also he could be a DP now and then next year he could not be as his salary would be lower than a DP’s and his transfer fee would be paid for.
However judging by the article that was about him sounds like it is possible he is coming over on a free as they say he turned down a contract with a club…. However I am not sure how accurate that report was.

He probably is a free agent
In which case there would be no transfer fee. If we are mainly bidding against Colombian teams his salary should also be pretty reasonable. Perlaza is being paid $100k and Chara makes around $140k, so I would expect Mosquera’s salary to be in the same ballpark.
"El Mosco" Mosquera
He’s following the Timbers on twitter. He’s also following el Trencito.

I believe we did. So that must mean...
(frantically checks people Merritt follows for more clues on who he’s signing…)
Sweet fancy Moses, Merritt follows Wayne Rooney!

Another interesting tweet as far as prep for next season goes:
@merrittpaulson: @shebainpdx they did. but bright dike seemed to take that to a different level. he is chiseled and lost over 10 lbs
A leaner, meaner Dike seems like a good thing to me.

Yeah
Now we just need to make sure he has some coordination :)

Dike
I forget about Dike all the time….. … IM looking foward to see more of Alexander, he was able to hold the ball more in the final third.
RCTID
Yes
Between Nagbe and Alexander we had some great possession on the wings. I really think they are our starting wings as they possess the ball better and have better passing skills than Zizzo and Alhassan. Maybe Alexander is a good replacement for Jewsbury or even plays on the wing and we move Nagbe to the “false” nine like Messi plays at Barca

At the moment I'm expecting something like:
————————-Perkins
—————-Brunner———Mosquera
Palmer——————————————-Chabala
-————————Jewsbury
Valencia -——Chara————-Alhassan
-——————————-Nagbe
-—————DP Striker
Nagbe
if he acquires the skills in time we may be able to play that game… the best chances we had at the end of the year saw Nagbe with cooper… I dont know what to say about alhassan…other than when he had confidence and i yelled at him to put his hands up…. that he would show for a brief moment.. Hopefully he gained that confidence on his own this year.
RCTID
meaning
I think nagbe is a great player with great potential. but isnt skilled enough yet to play that phantom drifter
RCTID
Give Paulson credit
I mean other than all the other things for which he deserves credit.
He’s got us all waiting on the big news. And he’s hinted that he’s had an announcement to make but needed MLS clearance to make it. Could this be it? The signing that puts it together?
It’s marketing genius. And if the newbie doesn’t make a splash, it would backfire. MP knows this, right? So tomorrow we get a gift. He has to know that he can’t build something up this much and not have it be special.
DP Rules
Right now we have two DP’s: Chara and Valencia.
My understanding is that Chara is a DP not because of his salary, which is well below the $335k (or whatever this year’s max is) but because his transfer fee was too high.
So the question is, for how long does a guy making $100-something-k count as a DP against your maximum of 3 DP’s? Has this been ruled upon? Does anyone know? Is he a DP for us if he plays here 8 years and never makes >$200k? Is he a DP forever?
However long the duration of the contract is.
MLS divides the transfer fee over the length of the contract. If the contract was say 20 years, he’d be no DP in all likelihood. But since that is not the case the DP moniker will last the duration of this current contract for Chara. If he resigns and is not brought in under DP status he is drops the DP card.

With other "transfer fee DPs"...
I’ve heard that the transfer was amortized over the length of the contract. So if Chara’s is the same way, he’d be a DP for the length of his current contract.
Also
Meant to add this in another comment. MP has stated that the salaries put out by the Player’s union is not what everyone actually makes on a year to year basis. I believe his statement was something like “You think those salaries are what they actually make? Chara makes much more than that….”

Merrit's previous tweet said
fair to expect couple of significant int’l defensive signings
Mosquera should be one of the defensive signings. Who is the other one? Are we getting a right back as well?
although
Gavin W said we would be signing a striker who could score 12-16 goals…. at least… so… to me theres three possible signings…which would shore up depth and much needed help
RCTID
I think he is referring to John Spencer.
