@MerrittPaulson
@SoccerInsider field size? A FIFA regulation field size would keep a USMNT game from pdx?! Baloney. We will have a gold cup game next time
From MP's Twitter account. Looks like Jeld Wen will be hosting a Gold Cup Game!

Not sure why there would be an issue
Our field already got approved by FIFA to host a world cup game.
Concacaf doesn't mind it.
Costa Rica’s national stadium has it. Women’s Olympic qualifiers is being played on it.
Jag kom, jag såg, erövrade jag.
I'd even settle for a game in Seattle
Frustrated its been YEARS since the team has come to the PacNW, and yet DC is likely to host another game again this summer. I think Jeld-Wen would be a great place for an easy qualifier against a CAF team that has a hard time of filling up a bigger stadium anyway.
Costa Rica
Would be a good example.

Or even a Caribbean team
TnT, Jamaica, Antigua, etc etc etc…..so many teams that everyone already knows the US is going to win. We play both Jamaica and Antigua in qualifying this year, you can’t tell me that bringing them all the way out here in our environment wouldn’t be a good thing, and I doubt you could find many 50k stadiums that could sell out those games.
Agreed
Put it up here in the NW and let us fill the stadium.

I still maintain that RFK is a great venue in which to see a soccer game
I’ve been to a number of big games there, both club and country, and when the stands get bouncing it’s amazing. I saw the double header in the Gold Cup last summer. The USA game against Jamaica was good, but it was a different thing entirely watching El Salvador-Panama with 40,000 Salvadorans packing the stadium.
Yeah, the USSF could probably throw the PacNW a bone, but don’t hate.

But it’s not in DC.

I laughed at one place when reading Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol"
the setting happened during the night of a Redskins divisional playoffs. LOLed.

Yes, that was one of the most improbable parts of the book
The MOST improbable part was Robert Langdon’s limo making it from Dulles to the Library of Congress in half an hour.

The USMNT
Just played a game on one of the crappiest pitches I’ve ever seen in Panama City.
Their reasons for not playing here are crap.
Things are changing
It certainly is not a universal choice to have turf, but where necessitated it is great.
Grass goes dormant when it gets bogged down with water. Grass never naturally grew in Tanner gulch because of the circumstances. Can’t expect miracles now to get grass.

Anyone have any idea?
Why they don’t just make the field bigger, there’s plenty of room of both ends to lengthen the field 3 feet in each direction and tons of room on both sidelines to widen it. What’s stopping them from just redrawing the lines? A bigger pitch in always better.

At the curve it would be too close to the wall
Its possible in the south end, but if you look at NE, you are just a few feet from the wall already in the corners. If the end was straight, it would work, but I don’t think there is quite as much room down there as you think,
Because there's no real need to?
The dimensions of the field are in line with FIFA international regulations. It’s the artificial turf that’s the issue.
