Timbers Tid Bits: MLS Schedule Edition
So we've already seen the appearance of Toronto FC's schedule which has the Portland Timbers playing them, away, on May 12th. This also means that the full MLS schedule should be released very soon. All my surces and tips are telling me that it will be released tomorrow at 2:00PM EST. Regardless of time, if true, it would be a marked improvement over the schedule's release last year which was delayed well into February, if memory serves me right.
So good on MLS for getting their act together this year.
Enjoy today's news. We'll update as soon as we hear of the full schedule.

It occurs to me that Beckham is in a situation similar to Derek Jeter's a couple years back
in that the Galaxy have a declining franchise icon on their hands, and they know they kinda have to keep him in LA at this point if he stays in the US. So, they’ll overpay for his services (overpay for MLS, not overpay like PSG was going to) in order to make sure he doesn’t spend a year playing in Houston or something. It’s an unenviable position to be in, even for a team with the resources of the Galaxy.
According to this author it's not more money. Instead, it's exactly the same with a few more perks.

Just as the Beckham family was preparing to fly out of L.A., bound for a festive period in London, AEG turned up the heat and is believed to have presented a one-year deal on the same $6.5 million salary that he was previously making. They also allowed a provision that will give Beckham significant freedom to play a full role in the London Olympic Games in the summer, not just as a member of the England squad but also as a figurehead and ambassador for the Games.

I didn't think they'd give him a raise
It’s just that the money they’ll have to pay to keep him is more than it probably should be at this point given his rapidly aging skillset.
So he'll be gone for a couple months?
Me thinks the LA fans won’t be happy about that.

Olympics last less than a month.
25 July – 12 Aug. And the soccer matches take place before opening ceremonies and up to the final day. But count training before and you may have a month and a few weeks more.
If going as a figurehead, he may be around for just a week or two, there for the opening or just the closing.

I still believe he is in a position to be good for the Galaxy on and off the field
And with resources like AEG has, they probably wouldn’t mind paying him the higher-than-deserved salary. Though, I wish they would have gone for a younger, higher potential DP to give the league a bit more respect for the future.
I don't know enough about it
But I don’t see how the Richards situation helps the Fire. He was affiliated with the Timbers beforehand, and started college before the Timbers had an MLS franchise.
Oklahoma State will beat LSU in the National Title game by more than 7 points.
He failed to even mention living in the area prior to PDL affiliation too.
