The short version is that MLS is moving away from multiple years of guaranteed deals for GA players, which means players that don't contribute quickly may find themselves cut, ala Hertzog, who did well for the Hammerheads but hasn't hardly sniffed the first team for Red Bulls.
Where that could get interesting/has the potential to affect the Timbers is AJB likely would need to see a big step forward this next year, or he could find himself on our waiver list at the end of the year. It also could mean we are less likely to take a run at a really raw player in the draft as a GA. The incentive to let them develop is slipping away as more resources are devoted to getting HG players signed instead.
