2012 was a rough year for the Portland Timbers, but who were the best and the worst of the lot? Let's find out!
2012 will probably, hopefully, be the season that we wish to forget. To put it plain and simply: it just wasn't very much fun for those of us who loves watching our home team win, or at the very least score. Still, just because the season as a whole stunk, doesn't mean everybody else did. In fact, despite the result there were a few bright spots propelled by some key players. But just who were those players? Well that's what we're going to figure out.
Over the next 7-ish weeks, we plan on writing an article per day (Monday - Friday) ranking each player starting with the very worst of the bunch and ending with our very favorite player of the season. Just who are those players? Well, you'll have to tune in each day to find out.
In each post we'll reiterate a little bit about the season the player has had, or in some cases, explain who the player is at all as well as give our arguments for or against on whether or not they should be cut or traded away.
But wait, there's more! Not only will we be ranking every current Timber who closed out the season, but we're going to rank and judge every player who donned the green and white (and sometimes red) at all during this season starting from First Kick 2012. That includes the likes of Troy Perkins, Mike Chabala, etc. In those cases, an argument will be made whether the trade of said players was a good deal or not in hindsight.
For info on how we got our final list: each player was ranked on a scale of 1-36 by each one of the five current editors. It was then averaged out to get the final rankings. Additionally, each one of us gave a vote on whether or not said players should stay or go. Majority rules in that case. Only editors who voted for the majority stay or go ruling will pen the article at large.
Really, it should be a lot of fun so stay tuned... the series kicks off with player number 36 tomorrow.
