I honestly do not know nearly enough to come close to having an educated opinion on this subject, however that should never stop us from asking others to do just that.
In recent days the WPS shuttered its doors for the 2012 season and the Sounders women's team added Hope Solo and Syndey Leroux to their W-League team (W-League is affiliated with USL). The Whitecaps also have a team in the W League.
In no way am I advocating for Merritt to put up the cash to bring in a Timbers FC team into WPS if it exists next year but why not make some kind of more formal connection with the Portland Rain (who play in the WPSL which is also tier 2...now tier I guess with WPS not existing...along with the W-League).
So onto the poll....

Leave it the way it is with no Timbers connection? (12 votes)
Make a formal connection with the Portland Rain (the more soccer rivalries with Seattle and Vancouver the better)? (73 votes)
