"If you don't make the playoffs, you basically clean house at the end of the season," Perkins said. "There's a lot of pressure and there should be."
Not sure if cleaning house is the answer if the Timbers don't make the playoffs this year. Especially if there are some injuries and the fact that the West is deeper than the East.

Totally agree
Core of the team is too young. That said, a few guys like Perkins, Jewsbury, Boyd and Perlaza might be in trouble if we really underperform, given their older age and BIG salaries. I think a few teams out west though would really prefer to have our roster (SJ, Chivas, Colo?, Vancouver). Good to have expectations though.

won’t like him saying it, though I agree. But as zaggy mentioned he’d be one of the guys getting the chop most likely. I still maintain he let in quite a few dodgy ones last year.
Maybe that
and the fact he’s one of the older players on the team who wants a team achievement before his window closes. I think he’s speaking for himself. I really doubt they would clean house unless it’s a complete disaster, but I don’t mind one of the senior guys setting the bar high.

UGH!
entry to the playoffs as a “wild card” should not be a benchmark of success. what type of soccer do you play? what kind of players are you developing? are you approaching the game the right way and are your fans entertained? these are all much more important than some arbitrary (the playoff system seems to change every year) measuring stick based on where we end compared to our “conference rivals.” by this logic we could play colorado style bruiser ball and make the playoffs and it would be considered more successful than if we approach the game the way l.a., rsl, and…wait for it…seattle does, but miss the playoffs by a couple points. if you agree with that statement you’re not watching the right sport…may i suggest the nfl. all this playoff talk is silly.

Agreed
I would like to see them play the right way and earn a spot in the playoffs.

"play the right way"
To me, the right way is the way that earns three points. Whether that way is beautiful, flowing soccer that makes people ooh and aah, or whether it’s total smash-mouth route 1 soccer is irrelevant – I want to watch the Timbers win, however they can do it.
What I mean and I think what Leverage Fan is getting at
is are we developing a system that youth academy players and our best young players can grow into and understand? If we start cleaning house each time the team doesn’t meet expectations – whatever they are – then we’ll always be adrift and patchwork.
That's what she said.
