Looking at the stats from a different angle

(First Fanpost so bear with me here..)

I was inspired by the Player Ratings fanpost to try and find a way to rank the players based on actual stats. So I headed over to the chalkboard page for the Montreal game and compared the players total number of "Opportunities" (Anyone know the official term for this? Touches doesn't quite work since it includes fouls and such) to the Positive/Negative results (also not the best term, I know..). From this I was able to determine their "success rate". Similar to Baseball, a rate of 1.000 is perfect, and 0.000 is horrendous.

A few notes:

  • Opta doesn't seem to list goals allowed, though it does list saves. This slightly skews Bendik's numbers.
  • I'm not 100% confident in this data. Opta has 0 offsides listed for Perlaza.
  • Players are broken down by position as Opta has them listed.

All that being said, here's the fun stuff. Thoughts? If anyone knows how to get better data, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to go back and do the previous matches, but with more solid stats.
