Portland Timbers potential Home Grown Player and Timbers Army sponsored athlete Rubio Rubin, of Beaverton, scored today in Costa Rica as the U.S. U-17s defeated Costa Rica 3-2 in the United State’s third match of the Copa Saprissa Internacional.
Earning a start for the USA, Rubin opened the scoring in the 18th minute. The start was Rubin’s second of the tournament as the young man sporting the No. 11 kit started in the second game of the tournament, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Honduras.
The United States opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Linafa (a select team in Costa Rica). Rubin entered the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute.
Rubin and the U-17s next play Chorrillo FC of Panama on June 26, before meeting Mexico on June 27 in the final match of the tournament.
