Part one of a seven part FanPost series looking at potential Home Grown Player signings on the Portland Timbers U-23s (based on the "[Brent] Richards Rule")
University of Portland rising-senior Ricardo Carrillo is currently in his third season with the Portland Timbers U-23 side. The former Crook County Cowboy was a member of the Oregon ODP from 2004-2008 and was a member of the Eastside Timbers.
Carrillo has seen success in high school, college and club soccer.
At Crook County High School, the forward was a two-time selection to the Intermountain Conference First Team and was the conference Player of the Year in 2008. Though Carrillo led the Cowboys to the OSAA State Playoffs for the first time in school history during the 2007 season, it wasn't until 2008 that he earned All-State honors.
A member of the Region IV Team in 2008, Carrillo scored an international goal in a match against the Costa Rica U-17s.
As a Pilot, Carrillo earned West Coast Conference All-Freshman honors in 2009, and was All-WCC Honorable Mention in 2011. During his college career, Carrillo has seen time as a midfielder and outside back.
Club soccer is where Carrillo has seen the most team success. In 2005 as a member of Eastside Timbers, Carrillo won his first Oregon State Cup Championship and saw his squad reach the Far West Quarterfinals. Carrillo and Eastside Timbers accomplished the same feat in 2007 and 2009. In 2008 Carrillo’s team won both the Surf College Cup in San Diego, Calif. and the President’s Day Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
The 2010 summer was an eventful one as he and Timbers U-23/University of Portland/then-Eastside Timbers teammate Steven Evans won the U.S. Youth Soccer U-18 National Championship with Eastside Timbers and became PDL Champions with the Timbers U-23s.
