...not because I am being a "fair weather" fan, happy when they win and pissed when they loose. Rather I didn't have the time. The Colorado game first: Spencer has not gotten the most out of the players he has been provided. It is either his lack of experience as a top level Manager or just plain and utter stupidity. The constant shuffling of line-up, which leads to a lack of continuity, is frustrating as a fan to say the least. Futty basically lost his man multiple times which accounted for the three goals. The lack of closing down the wings for Colorado so they could get the services into the box also was a major factor in the ass kicking we were provided. I don't know when the Timbers arrived in Colorado but they should have been there at least 3 days early to acclimate themselves to the altitude and weather conditions. That doesn't fall on Spencer directly rather on the GM. Same with going to the east coast for the time change difference. There is no excuse if they got there a few days prior. None. He should have had them ready. He just doesn't have the ear of the team or he isn't saying the right things. Especially in this latest display.
...the Flounders game. The boys again showed that they have the passion and drive at home and against their bitter rivals. They almost let their emotions get out of hand at the end but they played well. I don't think that he could have screwed that up but he tried at the end by putting Palmer in. The only saving grace was that he was sent off and we didn't have to see him give the Flounders a chance to get back in the game to steal two points from us.
The team has never shown that they are prepared enough to go on the road and play with any sort of urgency or desire to push for a win. Rather it appears as they are trying to gain a point and not loose rather than try for the win. This is Spencer's responsibility! Call out those who are playing poorly, make them sit, and try to earn their spot back by coming in as a sub, not a display in practice, in a game. It has been brutal to watch the lack of effort, which some responsibility is on the players, but a lot is on Spencer.
A change in leadership needs to happen and now. We are at the bottom of the table and a chance at the playoffs is looking slim at best. We have a tough schedule in July, a bunch of games against good opponents. Like I've said in most of my posts, I want to be proven wrong. I want the team to succeed but I don't see that happening with the lack of leadership from Spencer. I believe the talent is there but he isn't getting their full potential. It's time to make a change!
