PORTLAND RAIN VS. EUGENE METRO FC

JULY 15, 2012, 3:00PM

GLADSTONE HIGH SCHOOL, 18800 PORTLAND AVENUE, GLADSTONE, OR

LIVE TWEETING @CascadiaFooty

The Portland Rain (4-3-2, 14pts.) will close out the 2012 season by hosting Eugene Metro FC (3-2-4, 11 pts.) on Sunday at Gladstone HS at 3:00PM in the second meeting of the season. In the first match on June 15 in Eugene, Portland was victorious 2-1 on goals by Ellie Boon and Whitney Pitalo.

Portland comes into the game after a disappointing 1-0 loss last Sunday to Spokane. With their playoff homes on the line, Portland couldn't muster the offense without star striker Ellie Boon, who was out for undisclosed reasons, even though they played most of the second half with Spokane on the defensive.

Eugene comes into the game on a four game unbeaten run (2-0-2) since their first match against Portland, with wins over Spokane and Oregon Rush while drawing Issaquah SC and Emerald City FC.

Both teams look to close out their seasons on a high note. Following this match, many of the players on both sides will return to the field with their respective high school or college teams, with training beginning in early August.

NOTES-

  • Portland is 1-2-1 at home, 3-1-1 on the road.
  • Portland is lead in scoring by Nicole Strong with four goals, while Ellie Boon and Whitney Pitalo each have 3.
  • In their last game on July 11, Eugene exploded for 6 goals against the hapless Oregon Rush.
  • This game will precede the USL PDL Playoffs play-in match between the Portland Timbers U23s and Kitsap Pumas at 6:30. The winner of that gets a place in the Western Conference Playoffs where they, along with the winner of the Seattle Sounders U23s v. Washington Crossfire, will take on representatives of the PDL Southwest Division.
