I for one actually think that our personnel moves have been decent. Not great but decent.
At GK we have one tried and tested and quality starter along with two young guys who look to have decent potential.
At D we now have 4 CBs who are not great but MLS average quality or better (Brunner and Mosquera being better) and one young CB who could be an absolute stud. We now have Kimura who is a tried and tested quality RB but below him not much unless Kuwalok is our RB of the future as I am high on him. We have Smith who I think all of us were becoming very happy with before he got married and has played like shite since. Below that we have Chabala, Wallace and then Taylor?
At Central Mid we have Chara who is solid. We have Nagbe who might be solid. We have EA who I think might be solid in a central role. We then have Jack who is serviceable as a DMid and Palmer who while I am not a fan of, he is serviceable as a stop guy last 30 minutes of the match to hold a lead.
At Wide Mid we have so many young and talented guys: Nagbe, Songo'o, KAH, Zizzo, Renken. EA maybe. We just need to get more out of them now and develop them faster.
At Forward we have one tried and tested near world class striker in Boyd. We also have Mwanga who is still very young and could be an MLS stud for years. We have Valencia. We have Fucito who is serviceable now. We have Nagbe. We have Dike who on his day is a great sub but who we should not let practice with our own players as he injures them all.
So I just do not agree that GW has made this shitty bed with bad player acquisitions and now he has to sleep in it. Would I have liked him to get a RB this offseason and not now? Yes but at least he got one now. Same at LB. But I believe the pieces are there for us to be decent the rest of this year. However GW stating he hopes to lead the team to the playoffs....a bit optimistic.
Playoffs are not out of reach but getting that way as I just do not see who we catch. Lets even assume we can catch Colorado (which I think is possible) and we are ahead of Chivas and Dallas (we better be) but that still means 5 teams are ahead of us.
San Jose? No way.
Salt Lake? No way.
Galaxy? no way
Vancouver if they f up...maybe.
Maybe best chance and obviously the best outcome is that Seattle keeps sucking and we catch them.
