Perkins makes great reaction saves and he has been a terrific asset for the Timbers. Distribution is not, to say the least, his strong suit.
Passing stats give us a little sense but, as I've posted before (http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2012/5/19/3030758/perkins-distribution) they don't really tell the story for a keeper. I think distribution has a big effect on the game. Good distribution retains possession and sets the team up for success. Poor distribution gives the ball away, wears out the field players and undercuts the team's efforts.
But my soccer training only went through high school (and rec league at that). It takes some real data to show if it really matters like I think it does. So I'm going to take a whole game, track Perkins' distribution and what it contributes to our possession. And to round out the picture I'll do the same for the opposing keeper - the head-to-head showdown.
Given work and my kids, if I do it just for me, I'll probably wait until after the season ends and do an old game off my DVR. But if others are interested I could do it sooner - which brings me to the poll...
Tell me which game you'd like to see results from. If I get enough votes, I even promise to do it soon after the game!
