Top Teams Finalizing the Formation of Women’s Soccer League
Details are starting to come out on the future of top flight women's soccer that have been in the works the past few months. Existing teams in Boston, Chicago, New Jersey, as well as a new team in Seattle has been announced and three unnamed teams are founding the league to begin play in 2013. Portland is not initially mentioned as a destination for a team, but a certain USWNT member is moving to Portland in the near future and the support for the sport is well known. There is also this little nugget at the bottom: According to Arnim Whisler, owner of the Chicago Red Stars, "This is an inclusive not an exclusive effort. If teams want to join and can meet the minimum standards then we welcome them. This league is for the players that want to play and be on the WNT radar, the fans that continue to support us despite our false starts in the past, and the teams that are committed to elite women’s soccer.
