So I think we've probably all read about and heard from various sources about how Diego Valeri grew up in Buenos Aires and that his father ran a shoemaking business. What I want to know is, is the shop still in operation? If so, what is its name and where can I find it? I may be living in the southern cone after I leave Honduras, and
if when I find myself in Buenos Aires I would be absolutely thrilled to be able to buy a pair of shoes from Diego Valeri's father. Both because I would be happy to help support their family business and because deep down I illogically believe that putting some Valeri Specials on my feet will transform me into a futbol maestro. I think I'm kinda picturing Diego's dad as a Geppetto-like character; a kindly old man with a big white mustache and sheer magic in his fingertips. I'm sure his shoes are transcendentally splendid and unspeakably beautiful.
So does anybody have a lead on this? Has anyone ever asked before? I did a few web searches and didn't come up with anything. Maybe William Conwell could ask him after practice someday? I would be deeply grateful, and I may even be able to facilitate mail order purchases for anyone else who has similar desires.
