2013 Portland Timbers Player Rankings #26: Brad Ring

Steve Dykes

Brad Ring came to the Portland Timbers from a mid-season trade with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Brad Ring was acquired through a trade on September 5th with San Jose in exchange for Portland's lowest 2014 Draft Pick. He was acquired to add much needed depth at time when Portland had a rash of injuries.

Brad did not see a lot of playing time this year for either San Jose or for the Portland Timbers. He played a total of 271 minutes in MLS competition and 270 of those were for the Earthquakes. His lone appearance for the Timbers came just after his trade with a late game substitution in Portland's 4-0 drubbing of Toronto FC. While he only appeared for the Timbers once in MLS play he did play inf 4 reserve matches for the Timbers.

The Timbers must have seen something in Brad Ring to extend him a "bona fide" offer for his services for next year. Or it could be a ploy to ensure that if anyone wants his services for next year they will have to deal with Portland. Brad has proven he can start, in his second year in the league he made 17 starts for the Earthquakes, but he has not been able to break into the starting line-up for the last two seasons. For this reason Brad is not highly ranked in the Potential Rankings.
