Last year they replaced Cooper with Boyd. That was sheer brilliance.
This year they release Songo'o.
Fantastic...they just let go their most talented player.
By the end of last season, even in the absence of a bona-fide coach, they had found a lineup which basically could run itself. Songo'o - Nagbe -Zizzo in the attacking mid.
I like Nagbe and Sal, but the guy who ran the midfield was Songo'o. One of the few, if not only, players on the team who could actually strike fear in the heart of defenders and would regularly win 1v2 matchups.
I would think some folks would argue his numbers. but it doesn't matter what his stats were (although they would have been hecka better had his teammates finished off even a fraction of his many cherry setup passes). Although Nagbe was the guy MLS was trying to market as the future star, it was Franck who's game was regularly at a whole other level.
What in the heck are they thinking ?
As long as the center backs remain Mosquera and Horst...expect to see their defensive problems continue. They are brave, but oversubscribed. Dunno which guy exactly is more responsible...they took turns all last year blowing their marks regularly.....
I'll be rooting for 'em as always...but this is an auspicious start to the 'new era'.
