It's been a while since the Portland Timbers last appeared in the U.S. Open Cup. It was a game that most of us would like to forget, but will probably be forever seared into the history of not only the Portland Timbers as a club, but the tournament as a whole. Anytime a lower division club goes far, undoubtedly Cal FC's historic win over the Timbers will be brought up. At the very least, the Timbers can begin to right the ship with today's game.

Final Thoughts
Two MLS teams succumbed to lower division teams yesterday: the Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes. While neither of these teams has ever been known for making strong USOC runs, it still showcases the fact that even moderately solid clubs can be taken down by organized lower division teams who perhaps see the Open Cup as more important than even their league standings. I say this because I would hope that the Timbers note these failures and prepare for a team that could go all in tonight.
