Time for some transparency here, folks.
Normally after a game I send out an email to everyone who writes for Stumptown Footy asking who their pick for Man of the Match was. This time the body of the email read, "Piquionne, duh. Speak now or forever hold your peace."
And so we made our picks for the Portland Timbers Man of the Match in the team's commanding US Open Cup win over the Wilmington Hammerheads.
Andy: Frederic Piquionne
Four goals. Only McKinley Tennyson has done the same for the Timbers. When you're only the second player since 1975 to accomplish such a feat, you get to be the man of the match.
Ryan: Frederic Piquionne
I really thought long and hard about giving it to Will Johnson but there is just no way I could justify not giving it to Piquonne. His four goal performance was amazing to watch and he did it in a variety of ways. Of course, three were with his head but the runs he made on each of those were different and showed how skilled he is in the air.
Stacey: Frederic Piquionne
When a player has a game like that it has to be him, doesn't it? The Hammerheads simply had no idea what to do with Piquionne last night.
Will: Frederic Piquionne
Let's make this official. It was a good showing from most of the team against an inferior opponent, but the only choice for me is Piquionne. It was not just the four goals, although that would do it regardless, but all the other work that he put in that helped the Timbers to hold possession for most of the first half. More of this please, Frederic.
