What the USMNT at the Clink tells us

1. All of the players had rave reviews for the fan experience. This should lead the USSF to keep trying to give games to Cascadia especially after we demonstrate how we support our national team at the Gold Cup in July. It was hard for me to read all of these thoughts as I believe 100% that the atmosphere at the Jelly is better than at the Clink... louder, more involved, more intimate, more intimidating for the other team...and it breaks my heart that all of this praise is given to Seattle while we have to wait until July to get a Gold Cup game....not a bad consolation prize but not a WC qualifier.

2. Most of the players did not like the pitch. Some were more willing to talk about it than others but players and media alike (Grant Wahl mentions it in his three thoughts column at cnnsi) all said it was a horrible playing field. If I remember correctly Merritt said that the Gold Cup game will be played on turf, not a temp grass field. I think this is the right call and I hope many players are surprised at how similar to grass it is. However I then would stipulate again that if we want Portland to get a WC qualifier in the future we need to have a grass field. And if Qatar can freaking air condition stadiums we can grow and maintain grass in PDX. Huge strides are being made in how to grow grass in stadia with not perfect conditions (heck even in indoor stadia) so lets get on that.
