Portland Timbers Depth Chart 2013: Summer Transfer Window Edition

USA TODAY Sports

Halfway through the season and the Timbers have had their depth tested repeatedly. Now we will take a look at the team's actual depth chart to figure out just where each player stands. Today we look at the Timbers' familiar 4-3-3 formation.

With yesterday's loan of Michael Nanchoff made official by the club, the Timbers suddenly find themselves with a potential open roster spot, first pick in the MLS allocation order, and room for one more designated player. The team's first rumored transfer target of the summer, former Lanus striker Leandro Diaz, signed elsewhere, so who should the Timbers bring in to bolster the team?

The team has a big "soccer event" related announcement at 1:30 this afternoon and, while indications are that the Timbers will be announcing Jeld-Wen Field as the venue for the 2014 MLS All-Star Game, it is possible that we could see a signing announced then.

Probably not though.

Since nobody knows when we will be relieved of our summer transfer window related agony, I figure might as well take a look at the team's depth chart to aid in our wild speculation. This is my best guess at Caleb Porter's valuation of the players as they line-up in the Timbers' most commonly used 4-3-3/4-5-1. There are certainly players that can be shoehorned into positions on here (ie. Steven Evans at RB), but I mostly avoided including them.

There is certainly potential for movement at each position, with Alvas Powell being the most unknown quantity on the team, but for the most part I think those lists will hold up.

So, what are the Timbers' needs before the summer transfer window closes on August 8th? Who would you like to see brought in for reinforcements?
