Today during the live chat with Oregonian soccer beat reporter Geoffrey Arnold we gleaned a tiny piece of confirming information about Coach Riley's current roster. GAC commented (when asked about which players were on the 25-player roster Riley was required to turn into the NWSL last Monday): "hard to say, Riley holding secrets. I do know that one trialist is former UP player Michelle Cruz. he plans to take 22 players to Arizona."
What makes this interesting is that Chris Henderson had reported last week over at All White Kit that Michelle had been invited to the Boston Breakers camp (tho an alert commentor who recognized Michelle noted that she had turned up in an uncredited photo at the Thorns training two days earlier. This appears to confirm that Cruz is with the Thorns and appears to have done well enough for Coach Riley to want to see her in action in Tucson next week.
The other tidbit GAC let fall was that with Alex Morgan out at least for the opening matches that Meleana Shim might be moved upfront to pair with Christine Sinclair, although he also mentioned Jackie Acevedo as a potential strike partner.
Hopefully we'll get a bit more solid idea of what the team, and the starting XI, will look like before kickoff next Friday.
